I think every member brings something unique to the group, but Kyle certainly was always one to stand out. I feel like EZA will be fine for the most part but the first few weeks with him gone will be rough on moral I can tell. I originally had a hunch that Ian would be the first to leave too which I still hope doesn't come true anytime soon.
I dip in and out of Easy Allies (mainly the podcast and Frame Trap), and am currently in an 'out' phase, but damn, this is a massive blow for them. I think some of the members you could lose without much impact, but Kyle feels like one of the lynchpins. Given that most of EZA's output seems to be streams these days, it's not too surprising that Kyle has greater ambitions than that. I'm sure his talents could be put to better use elsewhere. Real shame though.
It’s a shame he is leaving, as I really like his personality and takes on things. Good for him to move on though if he feels like he needs a new challenge.
Yeah I think this is huge for the group as I always felt like Kyle brought a real editorial perspective that some of the others don't. Again, like others have said, it's better for him to go and find something that creatively satisfies him, but the group will be lesser for his absence.
Had pulled my Patreon a few months back, but if I hadn't already, it would definitely have gone after this. Have to suspect his secret sweet gig is with Geoff Keily.
There is no secret sweet gig, he’s leaving LA and is on a waitlist for a Masters.
He seems tentative about saying why he’s leaving because its not very flattering to the rest of the group. EZA has become a group of friends who just hang out and react to stuff (he specifically called out hating reactions). This hanging around can be funny, relaxing and enjoyable to watch, but it being your ‘career’ is something else and for someone as talented as Kyle, it is frankly beneath him.
It seriously sucks that he’s leaving but it definitely seems the right decision for him. If he’d struck around and just watched EZA peter out over the next few years, when it did eventually fold I think it would be a lot rougher on him than the rest.
The rest of the group have some hard choices ahead of them and I think a lot is going to fall on the likes of Huber, Ben and Ian to really decide what they want EZA to be.
So he’s recorded his final podcast and is gone. It’s been a really gooseberry fool situation for him to have to leave under and has hampered a lot of cool stuff I’m sure we would have seen over the past few weeks. His last group stream for example was really weird, but just to reinforce what a loss his is to the allies he produced this as the consequence for losing a bet and its absolutely class
None of the others would do that and that’s kind of the problem. I’d love for them to get back to the sweet spot they were at in their second year where the output was more varied a lot more ambitious and just more fun to watch.
I’m about half way through, its basically a watered down one from E3. Still nice to have it though and will be fun seeing it play out.
There’s been a few long reddit threads in the past few weeks of people not being overly happy with their output this year and the gradual descent to just being a streaming and reactions channel. It came to the fore again in the last week due to the latest Huber Syndrome which is about as low effort as you can reasonably get away with, causing multiple people to call it out. I’ve not cancellled yet because I’m only on the lowest rung so even the little I do still watch feels worth it and seems a bit harsh to cancel altogether at this time. I think they’re at a remake or break moment though. This time last year it was all looking up and they seemed like they’d continue to establish themselves as a Giant Bomb style permanent fixture. Now I’d suggest they’re odds on to fizzle out over the next 24 months.
EZA shines when they're together in person. This whole pandemic has def hit them pretty hard, plus with Kyle leaving too. Also Brandon mentioned there was supposed to be a big announcement tho I dunno when they'll get to reveal it. I feel like critics want them to be something they're not.
