Hmmm they've run into the same problem as recent specials where the whole thing is nullified by one bet. Oh well, still fun I guess.

Will Final Fantasy 16 be shown at 4-1 is the softest of soft bets to nullify the entire special.

I’ve wrote the bets out in case anyone wants to play for fun and not real life Don Bucks…

Big news for EZA. They're having a total revamp and Brandon Jones is retiring.

Streaming now to talk about all the changes. Some good some bad but it sounds like they need a lot more money to maintain operations.

They said they need $40k to endure and continue operations smoothly, they are on $22k currently on their Patreon. With energy prices, cost of living, etc increasing it might be a tough ask but hoping they succeed. EZA are one of the best gaming outlets around, their biggest numbers on YT are the react streams so surely it would be a no brainer to have sponsored reaction streams if they were wanting to make some DonBucks.

Jones is retiring? Is that due to family health issues? I saw something a month ago where Bloodworth said he was having to take indefinite leave because of his sons health.

I must admit I don’t watch much of their content now, but I will always have a soft spot for them.

Maybe they should focus more on the content people actually watch rather than the low effort content barely anyone likes. There's videos on their channel with 5K views.

I unsubscribed from them a few years ago because they kept uploading 40 minute low effort videos every few days, like who has the time to watch that? Even if I hung on every word they said (which I don't) I would not spend my time watching for that long when I have 100 other subscriptions.

Nothing they do is original or has had much effort put into it, every single thing is just people talking to the camera about their opinion on a game. Channels like No Clip/ People Make Games and Girlfriend Reviews do well because they produce unique high quality content that respects people's time. That was always why GameTrailers was so successful, they had a ton of shows like that.

Easy Allies produce content you can literally get anywhere else, that doesn't respect your time. The only reason people are given to watch is their attachment to the personalities.

Also, true.

There's reasons why people have stopped watching or don't want to give them more money.

It's just sad because GameTrailers was my jam back in the day. After all the OG IGN guys left I migrated over there until it shut down.

I think that’s £22k so in reality they’re closer to $30k Still a long way off though.

KF, it sounded like a mix of reasons, the decision was made in July 21 apparently so well before his sons issues. His dad is also seemingly unwell and when talking about it he just seemed kinda ground down by the whole thing EZA thing, it’s easy to have a pop at these people online seemingly but nobody really thinks about what it’s like to be on the receiving end of that stuff.

He’ll be a big loss to the group but I think for EZA as a business this could be a good thing. They’ve announced a big shake up and a lot of it sounds like stuff that’s been needed. I’ve upped my pledge to what it’s been previously so hopefully they’ll get what they’re aiming for.

Real shame to see Jones go, but perhaps it's good timing with all the changes too - something needed to change, for sure. I'm an occasional follower now, sometimes listening to Frame Trap, sometimes watching their reviews, and sometimes watching Huber Hype. The podcast used to be a weekly staple, but I haven't listened to it since Kyle left. I also can't stand Isla, and so anything with her is an instant no-watch for me. Sounds like that might only increase if she's now co-managing it all. I'll probably be tuning in less than I already do, but I hope they survive and can make a decent go of it.

Very much agree with the thoughts above. Jones and almost all the gang seem like lovely guys and girl, but there's no creative spark to any of their content any longer. Wouldn't expect them to survive this.

Thanks for the clarification. Did not realise this had been on the cards for so long.

Probably the final straw for me. It hasn't been the same since Bosman left. I tend to watch the Nextlander stuff nowaday as they seem to be far more at my stage of life (despite only being a couple of years older than most of the EZA crew) and Vinny is just great. But I wish them all the very best - for a couple of years I would watch nearly all their streams.

I listened to some of their stuff around the start of the year, and it felt like they weren't really talking about games as such, but instead playing quizzes, and continuing their obsession with 'bets'. It's slightly better than listening to Giant Bomb talk about food and wrestling, but it still feels like a bunch of people that expect they are the reason people listen, rather than the subject of games.

Odd, they haven't done any Bets stuff since E3. Unless you're referring to the fact that the podcast sometimes has a little game from the audience in it and they do 2 minutes on a weekly bet at the end. It's a bit of a weird nit-pick.

I think they'll struggle to stay at that 40k goal for any length of time. The space they occupy is constantly being squeezed by new comers and it's just a unavoidable that some of the excitement and energy will be lost after 6 years as a group. It's not so much anything they're doing wrong I think just with age and changing tastes unless you're doing something revolutionary you're going to hit an audience ceiling which will gradually degrade over time.

I'm happy to support them as long as they go and I get enjoyment out of it. A lot of it is just equivalent to having talk radio on in the background. Blood and Isla leading things seems like a good head duo. Huber is the heart of the group now I guess though and probably the one that if they walked I think it'd be the end of things.

There were a lot of cool streams in EZX last week after the announcements. Food reviews with Don and Brad was surprisingly fun and Bens Pokemon nuzlocke was pretty cool too when I don’t normally go in for his stuff. They also blew past their 25k funding goal which was nice to see.

That all said their Patreon is still sat below the $35k mark even after everything. If it’s the start of growth again then great but if the trend of the last 2 years continues with a gradual fading away of support then this next year might be the last. It’s also really sad to see Huber struggling with mental health issues at the moment. Here’s hoping they can go from strength to strength this year.

Everyone has been calling it for a while but I think this really is the death rattle.

tldr:
EZA is going part time
Brad is leaving
Studio is staying
Frame Trap to be combined with main podcast

This is in combination with Damiani having left LA and doing remote stuff from Texas a couple of months ago.

It’s been pretty clear what’s happening to the company since Bosman left, Ben and Brandon leaving 18 months later I think just confirmed there really was no turning things back around. With the crew now basically Huber, Don, Isla, Blood, Gabby and Damiani from Texas going part time is the right move (though I don’t know how they justify the cost of keeping the studio). That said I don’t think I can justify the Patreon support anymore when all I really get out of it is a podcast I half engage with.

I hope Huber lands on his feet as he’s been the most engaging member of EZA for ages. Best of luck to the rest of the crew.
