Gutted

Was hoping the rumours of a return of Bottom were true as well...was supposed to be one set in a Nursing home.

Ade Edmondson wrote:"There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing.

They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him.

"And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish bastard."

That's probably exactly the sort of obituary Rik Mayall would have wanted

Slimgrady wrote:Sad.Ive been watching a lot of Young ones and Bottom recently on Monday nights on Gold to break up boring 3 hour Raws.Wont be able to enjoy it as much now. :( Its a pitty the most recent thing I saw him in was the god awful Irish "comedy" Damo and Ivor.

I sometimes feel that way about Father Ted, but just let the hilarious shows by the hilarious people do what they were meant to do.

It definitely feels different to watch something just after one of the stars has died, especially if it's something you grew up watching.

That episode where he breaks his legs is the only time in my life I've genuinely come close to pissing myself from laughing, I can find a picture of it but his leg is sticking up backwards and Eddie ties it with string to a door to break it off like a tooth. Me and a mate were watching it laughing so hard we couldn't breathe but when he slammed the door I strawberry floating died laughing

You must! You must! You must drink our tea!

Really rather sad about this news. Heard them mention his name on the radio, then when they said he had died I actually stopped for a minute. He's given me so many laughs over the years. Bottom still makes me laugh out loud.

It's amazing where he can guest star in a show like Blackadder with those greats like Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry yet completely own the screen. Utterly amazing.
