PostRock Band surpasses $1b in retail sales in North America
by tomvek » Thu Mar 26, 2009 5:03 pm

Holy crap, you guys really like your Rock Band. A press release, citing NPD figures, has confirmed the franchise has generated $1 billion dollars in retail sales in North America alone since its November 20, 2007 release. If you thought that was crazy (it really isn't, considering Guitar Hero already surpassed the $1 billion mark), know that wannabe rockers have downloaded over 40 million premium songs from the Rock Band store. We can't say we blame you, as there are some pretty great songs to choose from.

Sadly, the press release doesn't tell us what songs were most popular, nor does it tell us what platforms people were downloading the most songs on, but we have a feeling we know what will be the most downloaded song. You heard it here first, folks!

I know that Guitar Hero held the record for being the fastest franchise to achieve a $1bn at retail, does this mean RB beat it?

It wouldn't be surprising given the gulf in price.

You can have a rough guess by going on the Marketplace. Just look at the RB / RB2 downloads section and sort them by popularity.

I like to think I'm responsible for at least 15% of that revenue through my DLC-buying habits.

My over 2GB of songs on my hard-drive probably helped as well.

They didn't get one penny out of me. 8-)

It just seems like one of those things that's fun to play for a few minutes but I would never really get into it, although obviously plenty of others have, still $1Bn that's one hell of a sales record.

Guitar Hero did get some great DLC this week though. However, they really need to rip off all the ways Rock Band lets you sort your songs.
