While I have not watched any of the prequels since they were released, before TFA I thought about watching them all again, at that point all the best moments I recalled were in the Phantom menace, so I thought lets at least watch that again. I could not do it, strawberry float me it has aged horribly, I barely managed 15 mins before shutting it off. But even now, I can only remember bad things about the other prequels, whilst TPM has pod racing, Darth Maul, and Duelling fates, so does that make it the best of the 3?

As for this, I really want to see it again, as I feel the first half of the film was bad, whilst the 2nd half was outstanding, quite an odd feeling to walk away with

It really doesn't.

You are underestimating who much of a disappointment Phantom Menace was and overestimating how good the so called 'good' parts of the film are. It also has the most Jar Jar Binks and for that reason alone it stands as the worst Star Wars movie ever made.

Jar Jar is the key to all of it. He's a funnier character than they've ever had in any of the movies.

I'd say TPM is the best of the prequels. Not great by any means but it had the least CGI and the best action sequences (the podrace and duel are excellent)

Did it have the least cgi? I thought pretty much all of the prequels were cgi in every scene.

It's night and day compared to episodes two and three. A lot more location shooting. Only scenes in the others I don't think were on sound stages were when they went back to Tatooine and Naboo

I havent properly watched the phantom menace in years but my memory was that it was just an awful cgi mess but I suppose most of the desert stuff was all shot on real locations.

Yes, Attack of the Clones is by far the worst prequel. Only the Dooku/Yoda bit has any worth at all, and even thats cheesy. Phantom Menace also bad, but at least two great scenes, two of my favourite in Star Wars. Revenge Of The Sith I actually really like. If I was to place Rogue One right now I'd have it shade Phantom Menace, but only taking into account that the first prequel sins a lot more than it succeeds.

Revenge, Force Awakens, the originals (not so much a fan of Jedi but still a great film) are all way better than this one.

The one thing I took away was how disiniterested I will probably be in the other 'A Star Wars Story' ideas they are planning to make. Han is not one of my favourite characters, so not particularly interested in that storyline.

Naboo too. The reason the later films have a lot more green screen is because of the trouble they had filming on location in Tunisia for Tatooine. Lucas had problems during with sand storms during A New Hope and Phantom Menace, so eventually cut down on location shooting pretty much entirely.

Come now, come now, let's do this properly in true GRcade fashion. The correct order:

ESB > ANH > TFA > RO > RotJ >>>>>>> TPM > RotS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> AotC

The order of TFA, RO and RotJ might be subject to change. I really like them all but they all have problems. I felt more immediate love for TFA than RO, but actually RO has grown on my since. I need to watch it again. RotJ is nearly fantastic but Ewoks.

People let the trendy dissing of the prequels cloud their judgement on ROTS. It's easily the third best Star Wars film. Aside from the Darth "noooo" there was very little prequel shite in it.

Did the Ewok hate only spring up post-Jar Jar, when Star Wars suddenly wasn't "meant" to be for kids any more?

We watched RoTS on Boxing Day and in no sense is it better than any Star Wars films except the first 2 prequels.

I was like you, thought it was probably no. 3 or 4 in the ranking but go back and watch it again... it's properly bad. Almost ost unwatchable bad. The acting, from Christianson mainly but everyone else as well, is just terrible, the plot has kernels of interest but is general non-sensical and the incredibly obvious green screening makes the whole thing look like a cartoon.

It's really, really bad.

Same, they're all cute and obviously for kids, but they also die by the dozen and are pretty strawberry floating savage.

See, I also rate the original trilogy as
ROTJ > ESB > ANH.

Seeing as I've still not seen RO (had it spoiled by banana split at work though, thus why I'm here) I'm not laying down an eight film ranking.

Edit: I have to add that it's strawberry floating close between ROTJ and ESB.

I love them

The first hour of RotJ is crap, though. Also, the Ewoks are gooseberry fool not just because they're cute fluffy bears but also because it means we have to watch them overcoming space-age, laser-rifle-armed marines with stones and arrows.

The space battle is great and the Luke/Vader/Emperor scene is obviously awesome, but the film has unfortunately done enough damage by then to take it far away from the top of the list.
