And you can't connect to the second router either?

Are you absolutely sure you have its IP right. If it was reset it probably defaulted to a 192.168.1.1 address or something.

I'll do some playing when I get in and see if I can find a decent way we can workout if the second router is up and stuff. Basically if DHCP is off it should still be accessible.

As a check are you getting an IP in windows when connected to the second router that matches with what you think the router is the sky one? Or is the address a 169.254 address ?

I don't know why but I've now got internet access on my PC. I plugged all the ethernet cables (PC, home plug, PS3 and PS4) into the router and the network icon lost the yellow exclamation icon. I still didn't have internet access but, after rearranging the cables, I got access :D I think that I might have been using the wrong cable before i.e. the PS4 ethernet cable, not the home plug ethernet  Of course, that doesn't explain why it didn't work when I connected the routers together.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who posted and especially you, Errkal. I hugely appreciate you taking the time and effort to help me troubleshoot this.

One thing still troubles me. In the network and sharing area of the control panel, my ethernet network is set up as a public network. How do I change this?

Well that was short lived :slol: I'm back to no internet access on my desktop and laptop even though the latter is connected wirelessly to the Sky router.

Turn off the second router throw it in the bin. Use the plug things for now or buy a wifi plug thing or buy one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-TL-WA90 ... k+wireless

I could get it going if I was there but remotely there are too many things to check and stuff over here.

Is there a version with multiple ethernet ports?

Not that I know of as it is a wireless AP.

If you want more Ethernet ports buy a 4 or 8 ports switch, if you want to expend wireless get an AP.

I'll go for the switch as I initially used the router to connect my PC and consoles to the internet via ethernet. The extended wireless was a bonus.

Thanks again for your help!

No worries. :)

I've never seen a router successfully used as purely an AP, especially the home user type ones.

There's too many complications with DHCP, NAT etc and with these routers there is so much written into the firmware that just gets in the way. As Errkal says, bin the router and get yourself a simple switch and wireless AP.

I daisy chained a cable Netgear router to a crappy sky router which I configured to a sort of "modem mode," but the respective IP addresses distinguished between 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1
