Simple question this week. If a map is fogged, will you spend time defogging it?

I guess 75%, but really it’s closer to 90% or whatever % is needed for me to get all the items. I’ll poke into nooks and crannies to defog if and only if the fog is easy to scrap or there’s something in it for me. However I’m otherwise a dungeon completionist which gets rid of most of it as a side-effect.

I spent 4 hours defogging part of a map in Xenoblade. Took so long :fp:

How common a mechanic is this? Xenoblade 1 had it when I played recently but I can't think of any other RPG that I've played with it.

Unlocking map areas with towers might count in modern open world games I guess?

Always 100%. I will spend hours upon hours trying to defog and find everything, even if it's nothing exciting. Defogging maps is always fun for me, I like finding every secret going!

I spent far too many hours playing LoZ Windwaker to count, just because I wanted to find every single island out there.

Depends on the map scale/defog radius. Most of the time yes, but games like Elder Scrolls where I hardly ever look at the local scale map anyway and defogging would mean walking every square meter? Nope.

Generally yes, feel like Im missing out if I dont. I liked how AC Odyessey defogged, it did it in discrete chunks so as long as you passed into an area it would reveal it all, on foot the chunks were quite small but at sea it would reveal huge chunks of the map as you sailed around, you didnt have to go to every corner to reveal it all, just get close enough.
