I thought this one was still going ahead? It's in Kamishi, so a long way from where the typhoon is expected to cause trouble.

If that’s the case I misread the report.

Rugby World Cup: Scotland consider legal action over Japan match threat

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/50011693

Seriously....

Not the organisers fault, even stated in the article.

World Rugby rules state that "where a pool match cannot be commenced on the day in which it is scheduled, it shall not be postponed to the following day and shall be considered as cancelled. In such situations, the result shall be allocated two points each and no score registered".

How often has that rule actually had to be used in the past? This is an opportunity for World Rugby to look at the way tournaments are staged and managed and whether there are any changes or improvements that can be made to make things better.

Rules is rules and, presumably, everyone signed off on them before the tournament started. But at the same time, making no allowance to refix or move a game is a bit of a shambles. Scotland could get completely shafted by this and its not something you want to see happening in a major tournament. I cant see this legal action going anywhere at all but serious questions need to be asked about the people who are in charge of World Rugby right now, they dont seem to have the long term best interests of the game in mind.

What a mess this is. Not really that fussed about England v France, but I feel for Italy, and Parisse in particular (plus another play whose name escapes me, who was saving himself for his final game vs NZ).

Scotland-Japan sounds like it'll go ahead, but really the IRB or whoever should've had a contingency for this. They've had years to prepare, knew full well the risks (as they'd mentioned in previous statements and such) and assured people they had plans in place. To cancel games because of this reason is a joke really.

Scotland talking about legal action if it doesn’t go ahead.

The thing is, people say about a team getting rest, but there's also a big negative of losing momentum, plus getting to play against a team you may face again later on in the tournament. For ING GER LAND to beat France would be another good result, plus a psychological blow to them, so.if they face them again then it's a "oh gooseberry fool we got battered last time" thing.

Think it's a really bad thing for England. They're exiting the group game untested thanks to France cancellation and 14 men Argentina. Now they have a massive break. That would be awful for Wales and while England aren't as slow to get going as Wales usually are, I doubt they're happy to be going into a big QF versus Australia in those conditions.

The contingency plan was to move games just 14 miles. :dread:

It's a shame but there's nothing that can be done now really. Still think Japan will beat Scotland.

They should have arranged for the games to be played in Hong Kong, Singapore or Korea in the event of a typhoon, but there's probably complications with insurance and TV rights.

And the logistics of relocating all the teams, equipment, staff, etc to another country at short notice.

It's been a bit of a damp squib where I am. I stock up on supplies as well (supermarket shelves were emptying fast yesterday) and now am going to put on a few kg as I went a bit overboard. Closed my window shutters too, so barely got any daylight into my apartment and probably going to get jet lag

It's rained non-stop since about 11pm last night but it's not really been heavy rain, and there's no danger of flooding. I have heard it's much worse near the coast though, and I wasn't directly in the typhoon's path.

Also suggesting having a game in Hong Kong or Singapore is outlandish. Hong Kong is 3 and a half hours away from Japan and Singapore is about 7 and a half. You're not having the game "nextdoor" you're having it somewhere that's further than the length of Europe away.

Besides, Hong Kong and Singapore are both by the sea, much further south and have more tropical weather than Japan. And they also have rainy/typhoon seasons.

I was wrong to doubt you, it's been canned. :(

Wales really demonstrating that our B team just do not have it together. So many basic handling errors, and they're not playing like a team who are familiar with each other at all.

Peak Scotland here would be to come back and thrash Japan in the second half, for them to then get another try and put us out on bonus points.
