I'm a little confused. Why have Wales been allowed to play at home in the millennium stadium? Was it an agreement with the Welsh RFU so that they could use the stadium for the tournament to maximise ticket sales?

It goes back to the 1999 World Cup Wales "hosted" and deals made with other RFUs. Certain games were given to France/England then in exchange for games in their World Cup. The Millenium Stadium also hosted 4 games in 2007 when it was in France, with 2 games involving Wales including Australia.

I had forgotten about this. Seems an odd thing to accept though when Wales and England are in the same group as it gives Wales an extra strength but I guess the draw wasn't made when the deal was made.

We hate you as well.

I hate the RWC being in the UK - it makes it impossible for me to watch anything. I would have to take time off work, which I am not going to do for any match in this pool.

It's only against Fiji and Uruguay though. The Australia match will be held in Twickenham. England were more than happy to play all their group games at Twickenham in '99, including their key match against New Zealand. They can't really go back on the deal struck then just because Wales and England are in the same group.

I wasn't asking them to go back on the deal. Just curious as to why it had happened.

For what its worth they likely would have known the teams involved before they picked the stadiums, or at least they would have known the tier 1 nations who dont have to qualify. The home nations have all their games in the big stadiums that are easiest for their fans to get to. 3 of Englands games are in Twickenham, 3 of Scotlands are in the north of England, Ireland play in cities that are easy to get to from here, Wales just play at home or in London. Its the best way to guarantee a full stadium and maximum revenue really.

Really hoping Japan can progress from the group. Will be rooting for them vs Scotland for sure, although I doubt I’ll be able to watch the match. Love the Japanese fans’ enthusiasm.

Canada have played some really good stuff here, should be ahead really - shame about the forward pass earlier.

Great that the likes of them, Argentina, Japan, etc have improved so much in recent years.
