Ol' boy Gundyr was actually one of my few favourite fights in the game. It's worth being lighter so you can dogde roll though some of his cycles a lot easier.

Yeah got him now, just had to time my rolls better! Actually preferred that fight to his first incarnation.

Couldn't find much else to do in the Untended Graves so I've headed to Archdragon Peak now, getting some Sen's Fortress vibes from this place!

There's a specific item hidden there which just leads to a separate ending (which I decided to take). But other than that, yeah not much else there. Some Black Knights if one is interested in farming for their gear and weapons.

Archdragon peak might be my favourite area joint with Irithylle. The first impression I got was a JRPG city in the sky vibe which I'm a sucker for that aesthetic. Also refreshing that it's nice and bright out. The lighting is great here.

I think Champion Gundyr is my favourite fight in the game. Maybe the Dancer too. Or Nameless. Boss battles are of an extremely high quality throughout to be honest.

Agreed, I found the bosses much better than both the previous games. Better difficulty curve with them as well. It starts to get a bit mad around Lothric Castle.

Yeah the bosses have been amazing throughout, can't really think of one that has been a let down which is impressive.

I found the Fire Keepers Eyes which I gave to the Keeper at Firelink. She then talks about removing all the light/flames from the world - which doesn't sound like a great idea to me! Presumably this is what leads to the separate ending?

On a lore note:
is the Untended Graves supposed to be an alternate Firelink Shrine from a world where this has already happened - hence why it is so dark? In which case it's interesting that Gundyr in this world is referred to as "Champion" which I think is the only other reference I've seen to that term outside of the player being called the "Champion of Ash". Was Gundyr supposed to be the one battling the lords of Cinder in this world but failed?

Doesn't it? :?:

Also no one really knows wtf going on with Untended Graves. Look at the Champions Soul description for more hints

To be honest I was just worried about losing all the bonfires or something like that.

Just tried to upload some captures from my session last night so I could share my mad skillz with you guys, but all of them are just a blank screen with audio. Guess the Windows Game Bar capture thing still doesn't work properly. :fp:

You can hear me beating the gooseberry fool out of Oceiros and Gundyr though, so that's something I guess!

Completely finished this just now. Managed to do the last three boss fights in one evening.

Nameless King, Gael and Midir. I echo sentiments about the bosses all generally being high quality. Off the top of my head only Deacons and Wolmir were a bit naff.

Gael and Ariandel/Friede were two of my favourite fights in the series.
.

However conversely, not many of the levels would get into my top areas in Soulsbourne games. Lothric Castle and the Archives, maybe the Ithryll Valley were only really memorable. The rest sort of felt like box ticking exercises and a bit too close to their counterparts in previous games. It veered a little too closely to just nostalgic ripping off of areas and enemies at times.

It's a weird game, as it's very solid. It doesn't have the obvious flaws of DS1 and 2. It's probably got the best combat (though I know people love 2 for its builds). The level design per stage is fine but the world design doesn't really take. It never feels like a world and there's not much satisfaction in short cuts (which now seem to consist of the trite "door you can't open from this side" and "elevator shaft without an elevator right now" method of shortcut unlocking. There's no sense of "ah, so I am *here*" that other games have.

It's still a great game, but you'd probably guess DS3 came out a year before Bloodborne if you didn't know otherwise. It still feels a little bit like a "B-team" game.

I already own this on PC but I seem to game much more on the PS4 nowadays and I'm tempted to buy the PS4 version in the current sale. I can't remember the game all that well and I never played the DLC so I'm absolutely ready to play it again.

Not sure I share the same sentiments on the quality of bosses, but each to their own. I think self contained within the series, they might be great, but still felt more or less the same structured fights we've already seen with the exception of a few standouts. Nameless King was so overhyped tho, the first phase is a mess and the second phase is just another aggro swinging brute you just have to time dodge rolls to. Gael was fun but his last phase just felt like a mix of ideas thrown together as a cheap way to boost its difficulty.

Really enjoying Archdragon Peak, definitely a contender for my favourite area of the game. Bloody gorgeous to look at as well. :datass:

Took down the Ancient Wyvern last night, not the greatest "puzzle boss" in the world but still quite a fun experience.

Here's me taking in the view, praise the sun!

And spotting the second Wyvern in the distance... I think he want to eat me!

Havel showed up again so I reluctantly smashed his face in (or more accurately his back as he was slow enough to backstab easily) and got another Titanite Slab from nearby. I've not upgraded anything using a Slab yet as I imagine they are incredibly rare like in the first game? Need to think about which bit of kit to use it on.

The bit at Archdragon Peak with the bonfire before the stairs with the respawning enemies was absolutely fantastic for invasions :datass:

I never use Embers as I'm not fussed about summoning or anything so never really get invaded unfortunately. Always fun when it does happen though. The area around Pontiff Sulyvahn is the only place I think I've been invaded by anyone.

I'm assuming I made the right choice by following the messages that told me to not ring the bell?

Ringing the bell opens up the boss fight.

Yeah but you also get locked out of exploring other areas till the boss is dead don't you?

I might be wrong but I'm sure I remember some shenanigans round there

I was assuming it was something along these lines. One of the messages made it sound like it would block things off in some way.

I've definitely got more I need to explore yet so I'll leave the bell alone for now.

I've looked it up since - it doesn't block anything off permanently - but while the boss isn't killed.

You can't miss anything/lose out if you ring the bell.
