You cant grind parksey. The boss is before you even hit firelink shrine. So there's no levelling up to be done

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

Where are you going wrong? Pushing your stamina bar too hard? Ease off on the attacks and don't get greedy. If you're getting hit while attacking, don't go for an extra attack and back off.

Use your stamina for dodging instead. You're invulnerable if you time it right.

Dying too easily? Raise your health a little through some little grinding. You'll get better at the combat as you do this.

There are no attack cancelling animations, so learn your weapon and what you can get away with before having to back off.

Take a few attempts just to focus on dodging the enemies attacks. Don't attack it yourself, but practise where and when to dodge.

It's the first boss before you can level up.

It's pretty hard.

The run from the bonfire is pretty quick/easy - you can dodge everything and be back quickly.

The 1st phase is mostly dodge and attack. The second phase is most run around screaming hoping to find an opening ;)

How hard is it compared to the other first bosses in the Souls series? The Cleric Beast was pretty tough, and you couldn't level up before that too.

gundyr is genuinely really hard at first

the second phase is really tough too

keep at it and once you beat him once you'll beat him a million times

Id say hes tougher than cleric (plus cleric is optional I think?)

Cleric Beast wasn't the first boss - Gascoyne was :P

Also you could level up as soon as you'd got an insight point in Bloodborne couldn't you? (And seeing the boss would do that, even if you didn't find a consumable?)

It's pretty hard compared to other first - particularly after it transforms and gets more aggressive and with a completely different style/moveset from what you just learnt.

As Souls bosses go it's not that hard - but it's probably one of the tougher starting fights (especially as there's very very few enemies, with not many "styles" to beat and practice on before)

There's a lot of luck involved.

Wouldn't say it's impossible if you've played a dark souls game before though

I watched a video of that boss and it seems there are five firebombs tucked away at the end of a narrow ledge, guarded by two enemies.

I didn't realise the starting area was so short and ykh couldn't level. Still, you will get better at the boss with every attempt. Like I said before, don't get greedy with the hits, especially in the second form as it seems like you could get punished quite easily.

The first form his attacks look a bit slower and more predictable? Bait a hit, dodge it and get one or at most two hits in yourself.

I take it you can't summon at this point either?

Edit - You can wail on him as soon as you pull the sword out too. Go two handed for more damage.

If you aren't using the shield (might be hard to block him), try going two handed for increased damaged. Just don't overdo it with your stamina.

Two handed, use light attacks on my for speed, do a couple of hits to save stamina before rolling through attacks.

He's only frozen the first time you face him. The transition between phases is a free for all though, you can go to town on him then.

I wouldn't consider firebombs a necessity at all, might overcomplicate things too. Just time those dodges and learn when to attack. We believe in you KingK! :-)

At least you've been bested by a massive demonic knight, not by a field.

the best advice for all Souls games (which ive said before) is just spend the first few attempts at a boss watching their moveset/behaviour. dont even worry about killing them. it will either make the actual attempts later on way easier and less frustrating, or if theyre a gooseberry fool boss or youre just good youll kill them because you realise you can consistently avoid damage after 1 or 2 attempts.

So.... I got to the next area and saw someone sitting down so I attacked him, as I’ve done with all the other enemies.

Only, he wasn’t an enemy. At least, I don’t think he was. He is now though. Didn’t take too kindly to being attacked and is now kicking my ass! I quit and reloaded but the bastard still has it in for me. Has killed me several times. Damn.

Checked online and it appears I shouldn’t kill him, rather start a new game and be nice to him when I reach him.

Only thing is, I can’t beat that strawberry floating Iugar or whatever his name is again now :fp:

So, I’m playing Detroit instead for now

I wouldn't worry too much. I think it's a Dark Souls rite of passage that you aggro a friendly NPC in your first game.

I aggro'd Eileen the Crow in Bloodborne so missed a sub-quest. She fortunately fell off the roof into the sewers, as she was way too strong for me but I just left her down there going crazy.

Look up what that sub-quest would do and how seriously it will affect your game (or ask someone here if you want to avoid spoilers). You might not need to start again.
