Only, he wasn’t an enemy. At least, I don’t think he was. He is now though. Didn’t take too kindly to being attacked and is now kicking my ass! I quit and reloaded but the bastard still has it in for me. Has killed me several times. Damn.

Checked online and it appears I shouldn’t kill him, rather start a new game and be nice to him when I reach him.

Only thing is, I can’t beat that strawberry floating Iugar or whatever his name is again now :fp:

So, I’m playing Detroit instead for now

It’s Hawkwood the Deserter apparently.

More like Hawkwood the Very Pissed Off and with a strawberry floating long sword!

Difficult if you've never played them before. But its worth it. I love DS3 more than the other 2. And BB is easier than any of the souls games. My game of 2016 tbh. Keep at it.

If you think that's bad, just wait until you face off against Pontins Burly Man.

Managed (finally) to defeat Iudex again and succeeded in not attacking Hawkwood this time. Now fast travelled to first area.

Let the fun begin...

So I beat Dark Souls 2 and it's DLC two days ago. I've been playing through the Soulsborne series at a pace of about one a year every since Bloodborne came out in 2015.

However, because I had put DS2 aside for a few months midway through, beating it didn't quite scratch the itch so I decided to jump straight into 3.

I'm hoping I don't get burnt out but it felt good even after only putting DS2 down a few days back.

However the first thing that is noticeable is the frame rate. In guessing 2 is 60FPS as it's super smooth and fluid. This must be 30FPs as there's a definite difference and it's all quite janky. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

The game seems faster than DS2 as well. Even with stamina, low equip load and adaptability, I still felt quite heavy in the game. You almost move like a Bloodborne character, not a knight in heavy armour.

I also got to the first boss, Gundyr. I was surprised at how short the opening section is (even managed to beat that ice monster which I'm presuming you're meant to leave for a little while).

Manages to beat Gundyr first time and without too much trouble. I definitely don't think he's harder than the Cleric Beast. He didn't feel anywhere else as aggressive or dangerous. And definitely not as painful to fight as Fazza Gazza.

Though that could be down to coming straight from DS2, so with no downtime between games, I don't need to get back in the grove.

I also think being somewhat of a veteran in the games now negates it a lot. It's telling in how the game's are designed that, though your stats do increase massively, it's still largely down to knowledge and skill.

I was able to beat Gundyr comfortably after only 20 minutes playing, whereas I imagine a newbie would find him daunting (especially the second phase, but he only lasted about 20 seconds in that for me). However as I am decent at dodging, I knew two-handing the Knight's weapon, watching my stamina and not getting greedy would see me through. This is all stuff you learn over the course of your first ten hours with a Soulsborne game. I felt pretty accomplished beating even the first boss so easily.

Of course, I then died to the human enemy just to the left of Firelink.

I'm guessing you're playing on a base ps4? As far as I know, it's about 25-30fps on that, and 50-60 on a pro. I'm on pc so it's 60.

All of the Jawa action in the first game is making me want to go back to this, as I got to a really tough part and got burned out (I find them quite stressful). I also dropped DS2 quite near what I think was the end as it was a bit gooseberry fool really.

I've finished:
Demons souls
Dark souls
Bloodborne

And I will finish this at some point, then I may go back to 2.

To your point about the speed, I think as this runs on the bloodborne engine, it's pretty much a dark souls skinned version of that, hence the quick character movement.

I actually think this one is the best Dark Souls title. The difficulty curve is a lot more gradual.
