I've not played any Souls games (not including Bloodborne) since the first. I completed Demon's Souls but gave up on Dark Souls a fair way into it. Not got far into Dark Souls 3 (only just got to the part where you need to get the Dragon out of the way), but all of the frustrations from these games have come flooding back - not finding a save point (so going back to a previous one instead of exploring further), getting killed and due to frustration and rushing through getting killed before getting back to the point I died, having to grind out victories (how many arrows were needed to get the Dragon to strawberry float off)?

Basically, these are the self harm equivalent of video games.

If it's the dragon I'm thinking about (near the "High Wall of Lothric" bonfire) then I've just ignored it for now. Like with the katana guy after the first boss I figured I would come back and deal with these obstacles later!

There are loads of bonfires in this one, I only got into trouble towards the end, the whole point is learning what you're doing, back stab or parry is your friend.

You want to load up on arrows and kill him from a tunnel, you get a gooseberry fool load of souls early on and make sure you use him to kill the others wandering around

Oh I definitely used him to kill all the surrounding enemies, was nice watching all those souls totting up! So far I just haven't taken him out directly, is there a big bonus for killing the dragon itself then?

You can quit the game anywhere and when you next start up you'll be exactly where you left off. Blew mind when I found that out as I played the whole of dark souls by backtracking to a fire every time I wanted to stop playing :fp:

its not massive, but in the context of how early he appears and the souls you get, you'll easily be able to level up a couple of times if i remember, plus he makes access to a short cut much easier once he has gone.

Ah okay. I've leveled up a fair few times since then so it may not be too big a bonus for me now, but I may pop back and give him what for just in case! May take the opportunity to have another crack at the naked katana guy - I understand the weapon he drops is pretty decent?

Im still using the weapons he dropped, they are decent yeah. Have you got access to the tower behind the shrine yet, using the er, alternate method :shifty:

Really confused, I thought I had to kill the dragon to progress. :|

Who is the Katana guy you are talking about? I don't remember seeing him. Almost like I'm playing a different game.....

Not yet I don't think. I explored the shrine area fairly well but other than meeting a few people (blacksmith, shop, person 'wot levels you up, and some other "ashen one"), and finding a door that was either locked or "opens from the other side" I don't think I found much of interest. Other than the katana guy outside who I gave up trying to push over the cliff edge after a few attempts

Youtube it, you wont ruin any of the story, but it gives you some very good items early on that shouldn't really be available.

Katana guy is outside firelink shrine, to the left as you face the entrance, up a few steps, you'll see him standing there, waiting :dread:

Finished my dexterity character playthrough yesterday. Just started a sorcery one now, pelted the katana guy from a distance with Heavy Soul Arrow.

Ok, this was the guy who killed me on first encounter but in our second battle he got knocked onto a ledge and then fell to his death. Just went back to check and there was some stuff there to collect [emoji41]

Anyone got some good tips for levelling up quickly? The first boss seems too hard and I need to level up but I'm finding the knights too hard, very hit or miss if I can beat them and they only give 200 souls and I need 3000+-to level up. Feel like there should be somewhere else to go as the game seems very limiting in what I can do next.

Put your summon sign outside the boss door and help other people defeat the boss.

I found some bits I missed and then summoned an NPC. Ridiculously easy with the NPC helping. Next up is the undead settlement.
