Word on the interwebs suggests that the Big N is gearing up for some sort of hardware reveal at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

"We've heard rumors that Nintendo might be showing hardware at E3," IGN editor Jose Otero said on the latest episode of Nintendo Voice Chat.

"They're absolutely going to show new hardware this year," the outlet's co-founder, Peer Schneider added. "No doubt in my mind that something... 'Cause I've heard from multiple people now. I've heard from someone who used to be at Nintendo; I've heard it from somebody on the third-party front."

The podcast crew goes on to speculate what it might be—suggesting possibilities like a redesigned GamePad or a new model of the 3DS—noting that they have no additional information on what might be announced.

If Nintendo does in fact announce a new piece of hardware at this year's expo, what would you like to see? A completely new console? Redesigned hardware? A new control option?

If it's a revision, it can't be a 3DS again, surely? I can see it being a successor, out next year would be 4 years.

Wii-U is a possibility but what would they do?

A redesigned Wii-U with a more aesthetically pleasing gamepad.

Far too soon for a 3DS or Wii U successor, possibly a new accessory for Wii U or a new model of 3DS.

Probably a peripheral for the Wii U, maybe a camera or something with motion tracking abilities ala Kinect or PlayStation Eye.

Got to be a new wii u gamepad. The console will still be pretty much the same but hopefully with at least a 500gb hdd. In fact try to further reduce the size, sell it as a like a set top box so it's hidden under the tele and make the gamepad the real seller.

The gamepad needs severe work, better wireless signal strength, better battery, better touchscreen. Just improve the whole damn thing.

And if it is a new wii u, put a strawberry floating ethernet port on the damn thing nintendo. That absolutely infuriated me when my whole house is connected up via powerline adaptors but the wi-fi on the wii u could barely connect to my router despite being right next to it. Sums up nintendo and online really. It would cost them pence per console to add in.

Imagine if nintendo announce a full on proper tablet :shock:

It won't be a redesigned Wii u or gamepad as that would be a mega strawberry float you to all the people who are going to buy a Wii u now because of Mario kart .e3 is only 10 days after Mario kart 8 I just don't think it would make sense.

A much needed gamepad revision will go down well. Can't see it being a console redesign other than a larger HDD.

My money is on 3DSi, built from the ground up with NNIDs and Miiverse completely integrated into the OS. Friend Codes gone forever. Faster CPU and more RAM, which can be used by 3DSi-enhanced games. Better cameras. Second analogue slider, and two extra shoulder buttons, which together act as a Circle Pad Pro in supported games. Can be used as a Wii U controller.

I'm really not sure what this could be. A new Wii U gamepad seems pointless, unless the system gets a total rebrand, a massive advertising push and loads of major third party titles it's still going to struggle to sell.

I think some sort of tablet (or even a smartphone) as HM suggested is more probable and makes more sense for Nintendo right now. Either that or a 3Ds console revision of some sort, something that is what the Dsi was to the original DS.

That said I'd love nothing more than to see Nintendo drop the Wii U and announce a 'Gamecube 2' - a proper out and out gaming machine to contend with PS4 and XBOne with a new F-Zero, Starfox etc. all on the way. A man can dream.

Bit soon for a new portable. I don't know what it could be though, vitality sensor? :shifty:

That seems a lot of stuff just for a 3DS. I just don't see the point at this stage.

Save all this stuff for a brand new console.

If it is a new 3DS then it HAS to be for this. Rebrand the wii u as a tiny apple tv like set top box and the 3DS as the controller and a full handheld gaming device in one. And yeah account system so it's all tied together.

Part of me would be quite surprised if it was a new version off the WiiU considering the fact that by the time E3 comes they'd be right in the middle of hyping up and getting folks to buy the Mario Kart bundle. I have a feeling it'll be some sort of hardware add-on for the WiiU. I don't reckon it'll be an improved Gamepad but maybe some sort of add on they can advertise and catch the eye of casuals (maybe a similar impact to Kinect with the 360). Failing that my second guess would be a 3DS hardware revision/improvement.

A gamepad add on for the original Wii to confuse things further because Nintendo.

I'd really like a range extender for the gamepad, maybe in the form of a little router.

Perhaps it's a smaller revised gamepad and they are going to start selling them separately as they will also announce the first game to support multiple gamepads

Classic Wii u branded wave bird controller to go with all the HD VC GameCube games that will be revealed :nod:
