If they announce something new or something different to both Starfox/F-Zero/one of their other smaller franchises people'll complain. However if they come out with one of those people'll complain there's nothing new.

Can you honestly try and claim Nintendo's recent E3 efforts have been anything but an utter joke?
We all watch the E3 presentations in hope but the reactions on here during and after the Nintedo conferences must have at least given you a clue that they were piss poor.

2012 has been their only poor one in recent years. I wouldn't gauge the quality of press conferences on the reactions on GRcade which probably amounted to pages and pages of " :dread: " and " :fp: " without no further context to the posts becuase they weren't announcing a new Zelda/F-Zero/Metroid.

I'm pretty sure they've said that they are working on another Mario platformer. My guess would either be Super Mario 3D Land 2 or New Super Mario Bros. U 2 (No Bono).

Yes, that's the reason.

I'm afraid I think F-Zero is done for the time being, though Star Fox is a possibility, albeit maybe not right now. There'll also be something Mario-related, but I'm not sure what form that will take.

I've had a read through the GRcade thread from last years Nintendo Direct at E3. The occassion really got to a few 'caders and, whilst there was lots of optimism, Mario 3D World was getting a kicking from some folks... and a couple were hoping that Nintendo went out of businesss :dread: .

I'd like to see Nintendo shake things up in terms of their approach to digital prioritisation and pricing... but I suspect it won't happen yet. Imagine Nintendo being the first console company to go fully digital - minds would be blown. Of course, this would require a completely fresh approach from Nintendo in terms of console file storage cabability, customer accounting, pricing structures and advertising. Perhaps there's an opportunity to take that step now and jump the competition.

I'd say an F-Zero Z 3DS remake is more likely at this point than a brand new game.

That would still be something, and it would be awesome if they included all the 64DD expansion stuff and online.

After seeing Mario Kart I'm almost certain F-Zero is dead for the foreseeable future.

Reminds me of that interview with Miyamoto from not long ago where he was surprised at how many people wanted a new F-Zero game, and the other one where he said he wouldn't know what new features to add to make it worth making a new one. Worryingly out of touch.

Miyamoto or Iwata... can't remember which, also seemed surprised about the demand for a new Smash game, way back when the Wii was still the Revolution. Seems to me that the decision-makers in Nintendo aren't all that in touch with all the things their core fanbase want them to make. Hint: It's not just Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong.

Of course, that isn't to say that all of our gaming wants should be addressed all the time, I mean, we'd never get anything new that way. Nor does it mean that there aren't good reasons for letting some series' rest for a few years or just die out (gooseberry fool sales, no money, perceived and real unpopularity etc). I do, however, think that the company's installed base deserves a great deal more diversity in its yearly gaming lineups (in terms of both new and old IPs), and I think that if a series isn't doing well, it should hand it off to one of its more friendly affiliates in the second or third party spheres and what they might do with it. That strategy doesn't always work, as Other M shows, but at least it's something, and I can appreciate that.

Mario needs to rest at E3 this year, have Zelda as the big title alongside some new and returning IP and showcase the next Mario game next year

There will be a new Mario game this year.

I would like a proper 3D Mario game like SM64 or galaxy.

Only time I will be happy to see Mario again is Mazza Sunshazza 2.

Mario will turn up in Paper Mario form I think. Even though I'd like to see the paper style applied to something else (Zelda ) an HD Paper Mario could look amazing.

Wasn't that long since paper mario 3DS was it? Given the fairly tepid response to that as well.

I dunno, the Paper Mario series is going through a bit of bad spell.
