I think I'll pick this up as I've always enjoyed them. It's basically the kind of over the top fun that I think games should be. Gritty realism can do one.

I'd like to see how the PS4 Pro version compares to the PC version as my PC is playing up at the moment so might just grab it on console instead. Hopefully Digital Foundry will put something up soon, they've already covered One vs One X on the demo.

Really positive reviews, can't wait to play it.
Glad to see the microtransactions aren't intrusive and more pointless than anything.
So Bloody Palace is coming in a free update?

There's a bit around the 7 minute mark comparing the real-time cutscenes to FF Advent Children, it's really impressive.

Devil May Cry 5 is a good videogame.

That is all.

That said, just got to the start of chapter 13 so had a bit of a play around with all the characters and a couple of weapons for Dante. V is weird as strawberry float, but I think I'm getting the hang of him. At least he's easy to stylebeast with because of the sheer number of hits going out, even if it's not the smoothest it could be. Balrog is a solid evolution of Ifrit, Beowulf, and Gilgamesh and I find myself using it as the standard over the sword for Dante when I can afford the style. Not a fan of Cavalier so far, though. It might just take some getting used to, but it feels a bit cumbersome.

The Demon Sword Dante, and the Sin Devil Trigger, though. That's some good nonsense right there.

For a game that warranted it's own logo, the lack of chat surrounding it is surprising.

Picked up the PC version and enjoying it so far. Only a couple of missions in but just got to my first mission with V. He's an odd one.

But yeah i'm looking forward to more. Definitely enjoying this.

It does look good, but I'll be honest it's not on my essentials list. With RE2 having just found its way into my catalogue along side a few other new buys it'll be a while before I even consider DMC5

Beat it on Devil Hunter this morning. This remains a very good videogame. I'll probably go back to Human to clear up any blue orbs and secret missions I missed while getting that play through done, before moving on with Son of Sparda. Dunno if I'll stick with it enough to get the platinum what with Sekiro dropping soon, especially since Hell and Hell S-ranks is insane.

I still ended up finding myself sticking almost exclusively to basic bitch Dante and barely touching weapons outside of sword and punchman, or styles outside of sword and trick. Might force myself to run with just Cavalier and Cerberus this time just to get a better feel since it'll be on Human.

Overall I still think Nero's the best of the characters, same as 4. All of his new toys are great and I'm looking forward to going through early game, Human difficulty enemies with busted-as-shit endgame Nero. His final boss fight is also fantastic.

I don't actually know how I feel about V. I must have been doing it right as I was hitting SSS consistently and S-ranking every mission as far as I recall, but it still just felt like I was pressing buttons. As a character, though, he's great. He's such a loser, I love him.

I picked it up yesterday and have only complete mission 1.

It's very pretty. The controls are going to take a bit of getting used to again. I find them a bit odd but can't remember if they were always like this or if they've changed them.

It's a proper videogame as well. Over the top, slightly camp, mental story and big swords / guns. None of the gritty realism that plauges most modern games.

In times past when I used to buy a lot of games I would have jumped aboard (especially that lenticular cover version from ShopTo!) but now that I've become more responsible* I've held off. I would like to try it out in the future; perhaps in a sale.

It looks stylish and is getting a lot of good reviews, though :-).

* Way more accurately: got less dough.

changed my mind and I'm going to get it when it drops in price. I need to see how much of the game you plays as Nero compared to Dante and V because I didn't really enjoy his combat in the demo.

Got it yesterday, surprisingly not many shops stocked it.
Only played the first couple of missions and my what a beautiful looking game, the RE engine is an amazing engine tbh.
Combat feels a bit slow at the moment but I haven't brought many skills atm.

You play as Nero for about half the missions, Dante for slightly under that, then V for about a third. The maths works out by having a couple missions where you can pick your character.

Survival mode coming 1st April

https://www.polygon.com/2019/3/17/18269 ... 4-xbox-one

Devil May Cry 5 will get a new mode in a free update on April 1, Capcom announced — noting, of course, that this is not an April Fool’s gag. It’s called “Bloody Palace,” and it’s a timed survival game.

In Bloody Palace, players will face waves of increasingly tough enemies and bosses against a timer. Players will have the option to play as Dante, Nero or V in the mode.

Polished this off over the past couple of days. It is really good. Funnily enough, up until about a day or so before its release I wasn't planning on playing it immediately. Thought I'd wait and maybe play DMC3/4 or even 1 again in the meantime since I feel l like I didn't spend enough time with those games as I sort of marathon'd the series not too long ago.

But I enjoyed pretty much every moment of this game and feel like I still have much more to explore in terms of the mechanics, abilities and hidden stuff. A lot of the gameplay is built off those aforementioned games, with some stuff not carrying over and a lot of new stuff being added, but with a better flow - thanks to a more streamlined level progression more akin to DmC - and the absence of enemies that are annoying to fight (there may still have been some, but in this area 5 compares much more favourably compared to the other games).

My favourite character to play as was Dante. Though Nero has more of an 'easy to learn' (/hard to master) rep, Dante came across as more easily broken for even a relative amateur to games like these such as myself. Still lean a bit too heavily on rebellion/the swords as a comfort pick while occasionally switching to fists and the others. But I guess across the series I have way more experience with Dante.

Pretty satisfied with the characters/story too. Wrapped up in an unexpected and surprisingly sweet way.

Started this tonight. Bloody brilliant so far. V is so good to control. It all flows so well and feels like pure joy.

Unlocked two characters. Loving upgrading and the enemy types. It also looks fantastic.

Wasn't going to go near the game as I couldn't get into the last one but this is amazing.

And finished. Brilliant game. Fantastic production values. A lot of cut scenes but they are all so entertaining.

Will go through it again to max out my characters. V is a joy to play as, Dante as more moves than any character could ever need and Nero is alright. His arm attacks are ok but compared to the other characters he isn't as fun.

A game made with a lot of love and a lot of attention to detail.

I'm on my second playthrough of this and enjoying unlocking new skills. I think Dante has become my favourite character as he has so many options.

I'm skipping the cut scenes on my second playthrough as there is a cut scene every few minutes and I just want gameplay. On a higher difficulty setting it's a challenge but still fun to play.

Only slight complaint is that bosses are not very memorable.

The only time I'd say the bosses in Devil May Cry are actually good are the fights against Nelo Angelo in 1, Lady and Vergil in 3, Dante in 4, and the two fights with Vergil in 5. Funny how that follows a pattern. Every other one either feels alright or just there because it's expected.
