I'm still unsure as to whether to get this, if the combat system's no good (as has been the case in pretty much every main FF game since X) then there seems little point.

It has an option for proper classic menu based combat. :toot:

Only played a bit of the original back in the day and didn't get on with it, but I feel it deserves a second chance. Might as well let that second chance be in a glorious HD remake.

I'm quite intrigued to try the new combat in all honesty. I was a die hard defender of the ATB system for ages and hated developments like the Gambit system for XII and some of the things that I could see other JRPGs doing in the intervening years.

But over time I have grown to be a bit more open about the changes and now quite like what XII did. Similarly having adored things like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in recent years I can see that moving away from ATB or turn based combat can lead to really exciting new ways to play. :toot:

For me the further they got away from the systems in 7/8/9/10 the less I enjoyed them, so to get a glorious full HD ATB based game is my dream.

I loved the system in FFVII. VIII got a bit clunky because drawing could be a pain in the ass and they started to go a bit overboard with the animations and effects which slowed the pace down too much - this then went double for FFIX where just doing basic attacks seemed to take an age.

FFX was a breath of fresh air with just how quick the battles could be, everything was slick and fast, and I loved the little indicator that showed the order of turns and how your actions would effect this.

I always enjoyed the massively overdone animations. At least with FF8 you could learn Boost which gave you something to do during the animations and the later ones I think you could skip. But I can see why they would annoy some people.

They were nice as a spectacle the first few times, but it became a bit annoying after a while. It was like the developers looked at Knights of the Round from VII and thought "people liked that, lets make every summon last as long!"

I think they just went a bit OTT with embellishing things - I guess partly to show off their graphical prowess, but it was a little bit at the detriment of the flow of play. Big attacks are fun but they lose their impact if everything is massive.

New trailer showing off the theme song and a bunch of stuff. Including the good boy, Nanaki.

Get hype for a Jenova fight in Midgar.

Have they said anything about how they are chunking up the rest of this into episodes?

Doing the first one as Midgar works well as there is a fair amount to it and there's a natural conclusion/cliff hanger on which to close the episode, but I'm intrigued to see how they package up the remainder of the game, which events they are going to make as the "ending" for each episode etc.

I can't imagine they would end the episode after just aquiring Red. I think it's possible they might re jig some of the Turks/Rufus/Shinra stuff so that you get more time with Red.

So where's probably the best place to get this from? Doesn't basically everywhere have some completely different pre-order DLC?
Last I heard there's no way to actually get all of the content unless you basically buy multiple copies of the game from different places?
