Yeah that moving it thing was just really weird.

I get why they did it, it was just a bit of an "Um riiiiiiight" definitely felt rushed. I'd like to imagine they originally had something planned like the Joker section in ME2

The moving it is just some contrived rubbish for you to have a reason to go to Earth since they inexplicably act like the place is the be all, end all of the universe for most of the game.

The reapers not just capturing the Citadel at the start of the game is arguably the biggest plot oversight considering the whole point of their trap in ME1 is that the station gives them access to census data and the relays so transportation is cut off for any resistance.

Done.

it’s even worse than I remember. So narratively unsatisfying and poor done to top it.

I think some the extended stuff makes it worse!

Now I’m sad and unhappy all over again - even after dozens of hours of excellence. It’s that bad

I also can’t see this type of trilogy ever being made again :(

They definitely came up with the ‘Take back Earth’ tag and then spent ages trying to get the game/narrative to fit even when it made no sense.

Oh that’s odd.

To get platinum you have to get a gun to level 10 but to do that you have to start a 2nd play through and get up to free roam on the Normandy to do it

Discovered the joys of next gen gaming with this earlier.

I bought it shortly after launch and installed it on my external HDD due to internal SSD being full. The load times were loooong (I would estimate 45-60 secs for firing up from a closed state, and then again after selecting continue).

Anyway, transferred this onto the SSD yesterday now some other stuff has been deleted and fired it up again. Wow, what a difference! Literally took a fraction of the time to load up from a closed state (less than 10secs). And the load screens were around 2 secs each.

Can’t say I’ve tried any other games across internal and external drives so maybe this is standard but for anyone with ME:LE, install it on the XSX SDD and enjoy the speed benefits!

I’ve always thought this was quite a story based game. Is it? I’d quite enjoy it if so. Heard good things about mass effect but never really understood what it actually is as a game

Yeah it's very story based. In almost every conversation you choose what to say and it effects how different characters see you.

The structure is basically like your typical open world game but it's not open world.

You choose where to fly your ship and you can just go from story mission to story mission, or you can do side missions, explore hub worlds etc

The combat is a 3rd person cover shooter and you have 2 squad mates. You and your squad have abilities which you have to tactically use. The combat in the first game is pretty mechanically simple and very numbers based but as the series goes it's gets more refined and satisfying.

In 3 you can set up combos with different powers and it's extremely satisfying. For example as a Vanguard if I use fire/cryo ammo on an enemy and then use my biotic charge on them it will create a massive fire/ice explosion that does tons of damage.

In terms of scope and pacing, it's a bit like playing an epic, HBO-style sci-fi TV show. There really hasn't been anything like it since.

Started this (ME1) yesterday and played a good 4 hours of it.

It really is special isn't it? I have only really played ME3 on Wii U (i did play ME1 when it launched, but i remember almost nothing about it).

Decided to play Adept, because i always go for straight laced Soldier classes (or the boring equivalent) normally when picking a class.

This is the first thing that is scratching some of the "just a cog in a massive world" itch that Disco Elysium does so breathtakingly. Dialogue options are far less nuanced, but you are rewarded with more spectacular /bombastic cut scenes. Clearly picking the neutral choice is essentially not a choice.

The world looks amazing. i thought the game had native HDR, but the Series X is showing it as auto HDR? Either way, its very effective (as you would expect from space stuff).

I have started on normal difficulty, but might bump it up one. Always nice not to be locked in to a difficulty setting at the beginning.

Load times are great. I cant really remember, but i imagine the fast travel on the Citadel wasn't nearly as fast in the original.

It sounds like some of the best ME3 DLC was not in the Wii U release, so, as well as playing a different gender and class this time, I also have some new story beats to look forward to.

Yeah, it's a really special game. The world is so beautifully realised and the different species and so believable.

The Star Trek vibe is what pulled me in back in 2007.

Playing it through at the moment myself (when Destiny 2 servers are down), about 9 hours in and loving it as much today as I did 14 years ago.

I only have a One X but it still looks bloody gorgeous on there.

Did my first few Mako missions last night. It's certainly been refined from how i remember it. Still a lot of clicking planets on the galaxy map for little to no reason, but the back story etc that it provides is nice. Plus it feels a bit like Spaceballs.

Just rolled the credits on the first game. Much shorter than I remember, managed to finish the game plus a tonne of side quests in just shy of 11 hours.

Absolutely loved it! Probably more this time than back in 2007.

Can’t wait to start the second again.

11 hours? I am 7 hours in and have only just left the Citadel after gaining my new status.

I’m now at 12 hours and have only done 2 of the 3 missions you first get on the Galaxy map.

Finished ME2 the other night. The last boss is still kind of shite. But it's a great game apart from that. Enjoyed revisiting it.

I remember spending ageeeees at the citadel in game 1, on most of my runs throughs. 12 hours seems super quick, good effort.

ME2 is an absolute masterpiece, with the final boss being possibly the only low.
