Seriously, the amount of games synonymous with the original PlayStation that were also out on PC (but the marketing was so strong I guess nobody really remembers) was huge. Tomb Raider, Destruction Derby 1 and 2, Resident Evil 1 and 2, Wipeout, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII...some Sega games like Sega Rally and Daytona USA also appeared on PC. Xbox 1 games like Halo and Fable belatedly made it over to PC and Mac too.

This really isn't that radical a concept.

Tearaway utilises the unique feature set of the Vita that would be near impossible to translate to PC (or, as proven, the PS4). Psycho Mantis in Metal Gear Solid isn't the same experience without wired controller ports, accessible save files from other games and a controller with rumble. Zombi is notably different from ZombiU for the lack of a gamepad (and the accompanying asymmetric multiplayer). Skyward Sword is absolutely beholden to the wiimote.

If those games were being designed with platform agnosticism in mind, they wouldn't be the same, and they'd probably be worse for it.

The PS4 version of Tearaway would work for the PC. All you need is a webcam if you want to see your ugly mug appearing as the sun.

I hope it strawberry floats off to PC and Sony decide to make a new DriveClub instead on PS5.
Gran Turismo is the most joyless game ever made and the time and money that Sony throw at it is a travesty.
It's about as much fun as taking a maths exam in the middle of a war zone.

So excited for this  Horizon would look amazing at higher frame rates, and just imagine the Uncharteds with mouse controls...

I love that this seems to be on ongoing trend of games being less exclusive to one format, whenever possible they should be available as many places as possible. Alas we're likely not getting Nintendo stuff anywhere else but 2 out of 3 ain't bad et al

The PS4 verison which was already notably different an experience to the Vita game, which is my point!

I really should play Tearaway through again. One of the most joyful games I've ever experienced.

Games being multi platform is not radical, but those games that came out on the Playstation were all 3rd party (although I think Psygnosis were bought by Sony before Wipeout released)

This is about a game developed by a studio which is owned by Sony and which has been published by Sony now being released on PC, that is fairly unusual territory and warrants discussion!

I can't remember when Sony bought them (94?) but I think from Psygnosis you had the two Destruction Derby's, multiple F1 games, multiple Lemmings games, Wipeout, Wipeout 2097, those wacky Adidas football games...certainly all throughout the late 90s their games were popping up on PC pretty regularly.

They also had Sony Online Entertainment which were putting out games on PC, though to be honest I couldn't tell you what.

Hopefully this will turn out to cover older exclusives, and one day, we'll finally get a version of Killzone 2 that actuality looks like that E3 trailer.

None of the manufacturers want to say it but they're all looking ahead to the post-hardware generation. Just imagine being able to play Horizon Zero Dawn on your new Stadia.

At that point does it not just become a slightly gimped game engine with a unique way of modelling in 3D

It serves like the perfect entry point tho. I think similar to LBP it could open up doors for more people since it's heavily community driven. Also being on PC naturally gives you easier use with tools I'd imagine.
