Obviously Sony has never commented on rumours about the development of a PS5 Pro console but it seems that it may now exist and be heading to third party developers very soon.

Rumoured specification details include:

Codename "Project Trinity"
"4K ray tracing monster."
23.04 TFLOPS
Faster load times
New custom APU
8 cores based on Zen 4
Integrated GPU
Higher CPU frequencies at 3.6 GHz
Higher GPU frequencies at 2.7 GHz
16 GB GDDR6 memory
Integrated NVMe SSD enhancements
Accelerated ray tracing

Viola's CPU is maintaining the zen2 architecture found in the existing PS5 for compatibility, but the frequency will once again be dynamic with a peak of 4.4GHz. 64 KB of L1 cache per core, 512 KB of L2 cache per core, and 8 MB of L3 shared (4 MB per CCX)

16GB of 18 gbps GDDR6. 256-bit memory bus with 576 GB/s memory bandwidth

XDNA2 NPU will be featured for the purpose of accelerating Sony's bespoke temporal machine learning upscaling technique. This will be one of the core focuses of the PS5 Pro, like we saw with checkboard rendering for the PS4 Pro. Temporally stable upscaled 4K output at higher than 30 FPS is the goal

March 2022:

January 2022:

... .

I'm intrigued by the supposed processing power; 23 TFLOPS versus the current circa 10 on PS5 and 12 on XSX. It'd be quite some leap.

It doesn't even feel like anything has even pushed these consoles yet, let alone anything that requires an upgraded one.

Oh who am I kidding, it's to run gta 6 properly isn't it.

Yeah, it does kinda feel like it's pretty unnecessary.

Then again, I got a PS4 Pro and bloomin' love it. I could imagine that the cost is going to be pretty crazy, though.

Gaming at more than 30fps?

Do we have any physicists on here who can confirm that's actually possible with out current theories?

Also, what’s the point in having such a big jump in spec when all PS5 games need to target the current version anyway? I won’t be upgrading this gen, sooner wait for PS6.

I assume they'll just us the best PC options the machine can manage.
It would be nice if we had games that made full use of the standard ps5 first.
I'm interested but not enough to buy the upgrade unless it does something really amazing like make HDR even more super duper.
I'd say I'm 90% sure i won't bother.

I wonder if this will be offered to PlayStation Network customers first via email like the PSVR2 was, or if it’s just going to be another scalper free-for-all that results in the majority going without throughout 2024 and 2025?

What we thinking on price, £549.99?

I wonder how much more they’ll charge for the Pro version then? £600? Bit more? Current ones are still circa £480 right?

Sony is now 3 for 3 on hardware that I couldn't give a flying strawberry float about.

PSVR2 - I'm more likely to invest in a new PC headset before this, but if the price comes down I'll revisit it.
Portal - Pointless, overpriced and less features than the smartphones, tablets and other things 90% of people already own that can already do Remote Play.
PS5 Pro - I don't do mid-gen refreshes so utterly pointless for me. If I didn't already have a PS5 then it might be worth a look (That's how I got a One X, I didn't already have a One).

Plus there's the fact that it feels like they are only just beginning to scratch the surface of what these systems can do and we're three years into this gen. More games over more hardware please Sony.

Agree with all of this

PSVR2: Needs to work with PC before I even consider it.
Portal: If it had an OLED screen then could maybe see some value in it, but it doesn't.
PS5 Pro: I don't feel like my PS5 is struggling yet.

Like the One X, it's good for bragging rights if you produce the MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE EVER MADE for the time being.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

It feels too early in the console lifecycle for pro revisions to be coming out just yet
