Coz otherwise, definitely no intention of swapping.

Well, presumably you could have your account on both devices and use cloud saves (providing you have an NSO sub that is)

Am I right in saying a non-primary switch has to be online to play? So the portable would have to be made primary.

I don't really like the Switch as it is, it's not good enough for me to be something I like to play on the TV and it's too big to be a portable for me. So a small portable Switch would be ideal.

Even if they do release a Switch Pro model I can't see them making games that require the Pro.
Maybe they will if an even more powerful version is released in about 7 years and the Pro becomes the new base model but at the moment I don't think Switch owners need to worry about being left out.

This talk of Pro and X models becoming base models next gen is ridiculous, no one needs that confusion.

Now the possibility of Xbox One S&X being able to STREAM next gen games is a different matter.

I don't think Nintendo will make an 'only' stationary console ever again, I actually think they'll have iterations of the switch going forward from now on. I know going by interviews with Phil Spencer, he doesn't count the Switch as a competitor to an Xbox console.

I carried out a poll on here last year and as many people were using Switch as a home console as they were a handheld one.

Personally, I see Switch as a handheld, I mean it has a screen, a battery and an ARM processor, it's a handheld, but I'm sure many people have had to make a choice between Switch, Xbox and PS4, so they're definitely competition in that regard.

Just to be a pendent. The ARM name comes from ARM Holdings being the CPU architecture designer, the type of CPU is a RISC CPU. This is the same CPU architecture that was used in the Xbox 360. So ARM/PowerPC/RISC CPUs aren't exclusive to mobile aplication, it's just that mobile is currently dominated by ARM / RISC and decktop is currently dominated by Intel / CISC.

Weirdly the original Xbox used an x86 CISC CPU from Intel and I have no idea why they changed but there's probably a wikipedia entry detailing the reasons somewhere.

I never knew this... I recall RISC CPUs as being the "new thing on the block" back in the days of the Acorn Archimedes and I didn't realise they were still around. Good stuff, Sandy!

I know it might look like a petty claim to cover myself but I wrote pendent on purpose, I've always said it as a little joke to myself :) Honest!

Why not, I’m a trusting fellow. I reckon there’s more benefit on here being a tech. pendent than a grammar/spelling one anyway!

Thanks for clarifying, there's certainly plenty of Xbox 360 era games I'd love to play in handheld, they shouldn't be too difficult to port, right?

They did a brilliant job on Tales of Vesperia so hopefully we'll see some more coming through.

I am down for a ‘Pro’ model Switch so long as the improvements are worth the investment.

The Verge wrote:Nintendo is working on two new versions of the Switch that could be released as soon as this summer, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. One of the models is said to be a cheaper variant, while the other device reportedly has “enhanced features targeted at avid video gamers.”

The WSJ says the cheaper model will omit the vibration feature, suggesting that it won’t have detachable Joy-Con controllers at all; it’s said to be seen as a successor to the 3DS. Nikkei reported earlier this year that Nintendo was planning to release a smaller Switch with a focus on portability.

The report doesn’t have any firm details on the higher-end model, but one source implied there was more to the revision than a simple performance boost. Even so, there’s clear room for improvement in that regard; the Switch uses Nvidia’s four-year-old Tegra X1 processor, and if Nvidia were to get back into mobile chip development for Nintendo it could make major gains in power and efficiency.

The WSJ says the new Switch hardware is likely to be announced at E3 in June.

The media are now reporting on WSJ's breaking news. I wonder if these two new models will replace the existing model? I couldn't imagine three variations beng on the market. Also... if the mini version has "fixed" controls (no joy-con) then I suspect the dpad could make a return.
