OLED screens tend to be worse in sunlight than standard LED LCD displays, you're certainly more likely to get a higher nit (brightness) rating out of LCD than you will OLED.

I've been trying to play my Switch here on holiday in the sun and it's impossible to see the screen.

My Galaxy S8 looks just fine in full brightness.

The S8 phone costs around £530 to purchase outright; the Switch system is about £270. The Switch could use a screen of a similar spec to the S8... if folk are willing to pay the extra cash.

Yes they are because OLED is awesome and I'm not just saying that because I'm a raving loony fanboy who will take any opportunity to praise the almighty OLED technology I'm saying it because it's factually correct.

I have the launch Vita with the OLED screen and have never been able to play it in bright sunlight

Please direct me to the Gaming Addiction thread.

Mario Kart 8 did make the plane turbulence more bearable though.

E ink screens with a high refresh rate for games when?

You could probably do some really interesting things with current E ink screens, it wouldn't be perfect for most "normal" gaming scenarios but hardware limitations that encourage creativity in designers can be a wonderful thing at times.

Speaking to Eurogamer, sources close to Nintendo have confirmed the report backs up what they have heard, too. In principle, Nintendo is hoping to cater to the same two audiences it eventually evolved 3DS to serve with 2DS and New 3DS XL.

On the cheaper option, first, yesterday's report suggested it would be aimed at casual gamers currently still using Nintendo's 3DS. The company is keen to move these players over to Switch - many of them Nintendo's youngest fans, who have been bought cheaper versions of the 3DS.

But rather than comparing it to a 3DS, Nintendo is, I'm told, keen to recapture the 2DS value proposition. Similar to 2DS, the unit's design will be sturdier than the current Switch model in order to be "kid-proof".

Costs will be driven down by the removal of several features. Yesterday's report mentioned the system's rumble would be cut to save costs - although it was unclear if this referred to the Switch's unique and more expensive HD Rumble, or any kind of vibration feature at all.

But an even bigger change appears to be on the cards, as several people familiar with Nintendo's current plans have told me the company has designed its budget Switch for an audience which uses it in handheld mode only.

Growth in the current period will get a boost from the launch of a new, cheaper version of the Switch, according to two people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity to discuss private plans. The new device will likely be launched by the end of June, according to one of the people. The existing Switch will receive a modest upgrade this year, though a more powerful version is not in the works, the people said.

Nintendo has yet to acknowledge the new hardware, but will likely include it in its guidance, leading to a lot of guesswork and reverse-engineering of the figures, analysts said.

No, sounds like we're getting a more portable version in June, and then another similar to the current one but with some changes (eg: better kickstand)

Removing the joycons for hardware parity in June.
