I downloaded the 2GB video from Eurogamer and watched it in 1080p. Is everything in the game slightly blurry? Because EG were saying the AA is so good that you can't tell it's not 1080p, but unless their screens are covered in a thin layer of vaseline all the time, it's quite obvious that what I was watching didn't have that crispness of being native.

Regardless, it looks nice. Setting is awesome as well. Shame about the rest of it.

What's your computer resolution? If it's higher than 1080, you need to play the video in its actual size instead of viewing it in full screen.

I've been enjoying watching The RadBrad's series of walkthroughs for Ryse. He's a fan of the game and I tend to agree with him. It looks fantastic and while it may not boast a multitude of gameplay styles (it's basically a very competent melee bash-'em-up) it looks like a solid purchase. I also think the cut scenes are remarkably well done; some great nuanced character animations and perfectly acceptable voice acting. I really do not agree with the sulky review scores for Ryse; everything I've seen of the game in action couldn't be in greater contrast to such moronic 'reviews'.

It's a sad day when the phrase "Don't judge a game by its review score" is becoming one of those phrases we should really take note of.

Not sure that's really the case, 6/10 seems to be about right for the game, sure some people have over-reacted (or indeed where chomping at the bit to jump on the Ryse bashing from the first time it was shown) but I don't think that even the people who like it would say its a great game by any stretch.

What you get out of it seems to depend on how much repetitive combat bothers you, I think I see just enough in it (and definitely enough feedback from the combat) that I'm sure I'll enjoy playing the game.

1080p, of course.

It's not blurry, really - just ask of the edges are really soft. Looks like it's upscaled, basically.

I'd imagine that you know damn well that it is upscaled from 900p, even though from what I've heard 900 to 1080p upscaling is supposed to be much less noticeable.

So you've not played the game, but the reviews are wrong? Good one.

Can you read? You accused me of pretending I didn't know it was 900p when the first thing I said acknowledged the fact it's upscaled.

You're on poor form today, Hzilla.

No, I haven't, but I've watched (and listened to a commentary on) three hours (so far) of someone else playing it. How does this not give me a good insight into how it plays? :?

Without your hands on the controller, it's impossible to gauge a game's 'feel', which is often crucial to a player's enjoyment. And I wasn't saying you don't have any insight into how the game plays, but you do have less insight into the game's quality than those who have played and finished it.

If you genuinely think you can get a fair insight on a game by watching someone else play it, then okay, it must be perfectly acceptable for me to just get someone to play all the games I get for review and write up my findings based on that instead.

Cal :dread:

Why can't you be in a position to say how it plays after watching someone play it?

Because everyone is different and you didn't actually play it mate. So you surely can't judge how it "plays"

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

Games with amazing graphics and gooseberry fool gameplay tend to have that effect on people, until they actually play them.

Likely an effect of the x.264 video codec used to compress it.

That's hey I was asking, but I thought that might not be the case as it's 2Gb and 15 minutes and recorded at 1080p60 so you can see what the framerate is like too.

I wanted to know how accurate a representation it was of what I'd see if I was playing it myself.

Odds are the in-game non-compressed upscale will be better than the video DF done. Even with lossless 24-bit RGB encodes; x.264 is still a lossy codec so it'll never ever look as good as uncompressed/native.

Thanks. I don't really know much about video encoding so that's good to know. I thought something must have been up as what they said about it regarding AA and and image quality and what is was seeing just didn't add up.
