Fireworks are a bit gooseberry fool aren't they? Spend loadsamoney to blow up some birds at night and scare your neighbourhood shitless, just so you can see some coloured lights in the sky for less than a second, plus the added bonus of a manslaughter charge if you manage to get it wrong in your drunken stupor. Anyone thinking banning them is somehow 'nanny state' was either rich enough to have a nanny or has been brainwashed by the newspaper of someone who did. Buy a HD telly and get a blu ray player instead.

When our neighbours were letting them off last time, they had a load set up at the top of their garden and were watching from the safety of being behind their patio door. Fine. Except the layout of our gardens means the top of theirs is right next to the middle of ours, meaning we had what looked like a third gulf war kicking off for an hour in the middle of our garden. The dog was terrified, it was so strawberry floating loud we could talk to each other.

Yep, Diwali, which means the curfew for firework noise is extended to 1am. :simper:

The lot over the road who do this at every opportunity are out not hindu, though. They just strawberry floating love fireworks.

I wouldn't have a problem with fireworks being restricted to organised events only, i.e. not for public sale.
People are just idiots, so it's better to avoid the general moronic public getting their hands on them.

Why do they even bother? They always look gooseberry fool anyway and they scare animals. What good are they unless you like things that are gooseberry fool and hate animals?

I mean, I do get the appeal-it can be a fun evening with family/friends, especially with kids involved. I grew up in a house on a cul-de-sac where every year one house would "host" a bonfire night, with all the families going round. Burgers would be cooked, a bonfire built and fireworks set off. It was great fun as a kid and a nice evening for the community-the quality of the fireworks didn't really matter that much. So I definitely get the appeal but that doesn't exactly justify the risks, scaring animals etc. The sale should definitely be more controlled.

On the subject of Diwali, i made the mistake of being in Varansi, India in 2016 for it, had to return home in the evening because of the number of kids who thought it was funny aiming fireworks at the white people :lol:
