Confirmed:

"On August 12, 2022, at about 11 am, a male suspect ran up onto the stage and attacked Rushdie and an interviewer. Rushdie suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck, and was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. His condition is not yet known. The interviewer suffered a minor head injury."

I vaguely recognise his name but I've never really known about Rushdie or his work. I now quite want to read the Satanic Verses. strawberry floating fundamentalist zealots, ruining things for the rest of us.

I hope he pulls through okay and the attacker spends the rest of his life locked away in miserable anonymity.

Curb had a whole season about Larry David writing a musical based on Salman Rushdie's fatwa.

I remember it being quite a (positive) shock whenever he’d come out of hiding to do a TV appearance (including HIGNFY, I think). Seeing as the fatwa was never lifted, that took some balls. Certainly more than the thin-skinned zealots have. Resorting to violence in this day and age, because a book says something that opposes another book. Pathetic bunch of banana splits.

Sounds like he's survived but not without long term issues.

The interviewer who was with Mr Rushdie on stage, Henry Reese, suffered a minor head injury and was taken to a local hospital. Mr Reese is the co-founder of a non-profit organisation that provides sanctuary to writers exiled under threat of persecution.

I doubt the attacker is even literate. It’s more about how people can be whipped up by religious authorities to ‘defend’ their faith against something they are being lied to about.

There's zero chance that the attempted murderer has read The Satanic Verses.

Salman Rushdie: Author on ventilator and unable to speak, agent says

Even worse sounding than the already awful initial update from his agent.

Known in Burnley for writing the lyrics to this advert in 1979 before he got big as a novelist:

Ha, I’d never heard that before. I knew he came up with the “naughty but nice” slogan for cream cakes.

EDIT: And I’ve just read that he was also responsible for “That’ll do nicely” for American Express and “Irresistibubble” for Aero!

The controversy predates the book.

EDIT: It was supposedly written down only two generations after the passing of Mohammed, and was written by Muslims. Obviously no one knows for sure whether it's true or not, but it's still incredibly thin skinned/unfair to go after the author for it.

I didn’t realise the Burnley Building Society had been around that long.

Let's prove our religion isn't hateful and intolerant by putting a bounty out on someone who wrote some words in a book

So, he's definitely off the ventilator and talking, but we're still not sure if he was actually stabbed or not?
