Sandwiches (and other packed lunches)

You decide to make a sandwich to take to work with you.

What do you make? I need all the details. What kind of bread? What filling? Butter? Sauce? Do you take one sandwich or two? Do you wrap it in foil? Does it go in the fridge at work, or just sit in your bag?

Maybe you don't want to take a sandwich. What would you take instead?

Please tell me. It's very important.

Edam cheese slices in white bread rolls (no butter or extras).

Simple, yet heavenly.

I take the bread out of the fridge and make sure I am standing while I wipe butter over the slices. I then add beefburgers and head out to go bowling.

Kingsmill 50/50
Flora spread
Tesco strawberry jam (the standard one not the basic)

Take two slices of bread from the fridge, butter them on both sides with a knife, then using the same knife get some jam and spread it on one side of one piece of bread. Add sugar to taste. Place the other piece of bread on top to complete the sandwich. I can never decide between rectangles or triangles, so finally take the knife and cut the sandwich into one rectangle and one triangle.

Wrap in clingfilm and consume at a later date.

Usually a bit of butter (Lurpak), cheese (medium cheddar) and some pickle. Preferably in a roll, but recently in a Warburton's "thin".

Not bad, but not amazing.

> Two slices of brown / wholemeal bread
> Two slices of cheap ham or chicken
> Some salad from one of those pre-washed salad bags
> No butter or spread

The two sandwiches are then put into an old plastic container and placed in a fridge overnight; before being brought out in the morning ready for scoffing at lunch-time. I will chuck in some crisps, a crunchy bar and a yoghurt to go with it. And then I'll buy extra stuff during the day if I get hungry again.

A French baguette from M&S
Hellmann's Mayo or Yeo Valley spreadable butter (still takes 5 minutes to soften up)
Sliced mozzarella (the white ball, not the yellow stuff you put on a pizza)
Green pesto
A small handful of Rocket and fresh basil leaves
Sliced tomatoes.

Allinson Wholemeal bread
Ham
Bagged salad
JR's Main Event Mustard
Slice the bread diagonally with RESPECT.

Allinson Wholemeal bread
Yeo Valley spreadable butter
Grated Cheddar Cheese
Slice the bread diagonally. RESPECT optional.

Chilli/curry batch cook microwave supremacy.

I've not taken sandwiches into work for... years, I think.

4 slices of Hovis Best of Both
8 slices of mature cheddar
8 slices of cucumber
4 halved cherry tomatoes
few slices of red onion
salad leaves
some sort of butter/not butter spread

Well nice. I wrap it in clingfilm and leave it in my bag so that the bread goes all moist and the cheese sweats a bit. Just makes it that bit more soft and squidgy which is my fetish.

I'm rather partial to the following sandwich.

2 slices While bread (anything other than Kingsmill)
lightly buttered (Lurpak or President)
Tuna & Mayonnaise (Hellmann's, lots), couple of finely diced cornichons/gherkins mixed in (optional)
Generously fill sandwich.

Or there's the slightly experimental (and rarely made)

2 slices While bread (anything other than Kingsmill)
lightly buttered (Lurpak or President)
thinly sliced roast chicken
Mango Chutney

One slice of bread, then a layer of cheese, then another slice of bread. Done.
