And for those hoping this is the last, Saw VI is due the same time next year/year after.

Nevertheless I'll be seeing it. Saw, er, IV last year, best part was the end with the ice blocks.

Saw - Jigsaw makes traps that kill people.
Saw 2 - Jigsaw and Amanda make traps that kill people.
Saw 3 - Jigsaw and Amanda make traps that kill people but they themselves both die at the end.
Saw 4 - Happens at the same time as Saw 3. People die in traps.

This. I watched the first one earlier on tonight when it was shown, scared the hell out of me. Though I have to admit I thought it was quite a well told story and the end was very surprising, to me at least. I don't think I'll be able to bring myself to watch the others though.

They're not that bad. II is decent enough (Xavier is bad ass) though not as good as I, and III/IV don't really help each other by running concurrent stories which aren't properly tied up until the start of the fifth film. Overall they're not brilliant but still perfectly viewable.

I hated 2, but I thought 3 was a return to form. Well, not quite form, obviously, but a damn sight better than 2 which just did my head in.

Obviously they're not the best films ever made, but I do find them incredibly entertaining! I love seeing the imagination that goes into some of the traps, especially the ironic ones (I do love a bit of irony me!).

Everyone saying the first one is best is almost definitely true, due to it's originality, however, the acting, especially that of Adam and Dr Gordon was god-awful! Atleast (in my opinion) this improved over subsequent films.

I never expect too much from the films, but I will definitely be seeing V with a couple of mates, a bucket-o-popcorn and most likely, a massive smile on my face! :D

Was forced to watch this last night and I have to say it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

One thing that really surprised me was how little gore there was, especially compared to Saw 2 & 3 (not seen 4).

For those wondering, most of the story arcs from Saw 3 (and possibly 4) are wrapped up in this but they also leave one story arc unresolved. (this will probably be resolved/wrapped up in Saw VI)

4/10.

You agree that the ending is ridiculous though, surely? I was close to laughing when...

Of course I do, that was probably the most silly part in an otherwise decent movie.

The look on the guys face was hilarious.

My friend was the first to mention this...how exactly is he going to get out of the box? The FBI agent shot (and damaged?) the locking mechanism?

SPOILERS...

What do you think was in the box? It's obviously going to be a part of the main story arc in the sixth and final (if rumours are to be believed) movie.

He'll probably find a way of kicking the door open now that the lock is damaged. Or maybe it was the frame holding the sheet of glass which was damaged and it'll allow him to kick through the glass.

As for the box... no idea. The writers themselves probably don't know yet.

Saw was a strange one - a nasty little film with some appalling acting (the best actor in it was the guy who wrote it - Cary Elwes was abysmal) but an intriguing premise and one or two really effective set-pieces - hello, camera flash! I've never seen the rest because they seemed to think the first was all about the gore and clever traps. Which may have attracted some people, but they weren't what made the first an efficient little shocker.

If it were Japanese you'd love it :P

Seriously tho, Saw V was alright, I did enjoy it for the most part-but I really dont think Lionsgate should have carried on after the series effectively ended with Saw III.

Hoffman is a terrible replacement for Jigsaw, and having Agent Strahum die at the end was a real kick in the nuts. But then again it IS Saw, and that crap always happens. It was ok that Jigsaw always got away, because he was that damn cool, and calculating-always one step ahead. Hoffman however is just a bellend. Ironically I thought he and Strauhm were twins at first they looked that similar

And just what the hell did Strauhm do to deserve being killed anyway?

And WHY shoehorn Hoffman in the events of Saws I and II. HE WASNT THERE OK. Jesus, how many more sidekicks can they pull out of the closet

Other than that though it was enjoyable 7/10 popcorn fluff.

What a waste of an evening. Like I said before, I'm no big fan of the series, but this was the worst of the lot for me, having not seen Saw II. It wasn't in the least bit scary, and the writers didn't even have the good grace to add a little mystery to the detective story. Add to that the least imaginative traps ever, and you have a complete waste of time.

I'm not paying to see the next one, tradition or no tradition.

Well Jigsaw told Hoffman that he had all the proof about Hoffman killing Seth in a safe place that would be revealed when he died, maybe something to do with that?

Apologies for the late reply.

I also thought that might be it, but if that is what's in the box..why did Jigsaw bother training him to be his successor.

Unless she's also in on it & his is real successor. I wouldn't be surprised if that's how Saw VI ends.
