Looks like we might finally be able to take the fight back to the deadliest animal (to humans) on the planet :toot:
BBC News wrote:A fungus - genetically enhanced to produce spider toxin - can rapidly kill huge numbers of the mosquitoes that spread malaria, a study suggests.

Trials, which took place in Burkina Faso, showed mosquito populations collapsed by 99% within 45 days.

The researchers say their aim is not to make the insects extinct but to help stop the spread of malaria.

The disease, which is spread when female mosquitoes drink blood, kills more than 400,000 people per year.

Worldwide, there are about 219 million cases of malaria each year.

I have complete confidence that this spider-venom-enhanced fungus will save us all and definitely won't turn anyone into brainless cannibal zombies :shifty:

Science

If this can be turned in to a repelant I can wear then have all the money. strawberry floating banana split mosquitos eat me alive on holiday - I think one time I counted something like 46 bites on one leg.

It'll work as a repelant in that they'll all be dead and unable to bite you.

You just need a spray that contains DEET, it'll stop the little strawberry floaters coming for you.

Well if the coronavirus makes the Earth uninhabitable at least we have a backup planet to jump to :toot:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-51828871

Astronomers have observed a distant planet where it probably rains iron.

It sounds like a science fiction movie, but this is the nature of some of the extreme worlds we're now discovering.

Wasp-76b, as it's known, orbits so close in to its host star, its dayside temperatures exceed 2,400C - hot enough to vaporise metals.

The planet's nightside, on the other hand, is 1,000 degrees cooler, allowing those metals to condense and rain out.

Unlucky, climate change is only going to raise temperatures to 2399 C.
