That doesn't mean it shouldn't be challenged though. 'Anti-Britishness' (read: anti-English) can often thinly disguise misguided racism.

900 years you ordered us around, killed millions of us and sent us to the Barbados as slaves for some kings you hung around with. People fought and died to reclaim most of Ireland back from the British so its not racism that makes me not want to be considered British. My country isnt 100years old yet.

strawberry float off man, I didn't do gooseberry fool.

Even if I was 1,000 years old I'm Scottish so that still wouldn't hold true.

Seeing as this is the Scottish independence thread I was referring to Scots rather than the Irish. But actually that's sort of proving my point; you seem to blanket blame the (currently alive) British for problems Ireland have experienced.

Ah ok kb, I dunno he does seem to have taken it a little to heart and somehow seems to have reached the conclusion that intelligent people would only have voted yes. Looking back strawberry float knows how I missed that, sleepless night's mangled my brain.

Kind of is.
Disliking the British as a race/people because of where they are born and what some of their distant ancestors might have done/not done.
Whereas you should be looking at them as individuals not defined by the place they live/colour of their skin/religion.

...

Right, not wanting to be recognised as British isn't racism, I agree.

Being anti-British can be, however, and often is. That was my point.

And your post was pretty Anti-british, hence why it was seen as at least semi-racist.

It is when you accuse 60 million people of being responsible for 900 years of atrocities.

What's it like, knowing someone else fought for your freedom and having done nothing to repay them?

Anyway...

The UK is a better place with Scotland in it. And Eire isn't British.

Yes blame SNP overspending on the no vote.

Wait and see what happens if they end up scrapping the barnet formula and allocate funds more fairly.

His post is a few pages back, it's really not that bad. Zellery was pretending it was Luke that was burning the butchers apron, hence the joke.

I agree it shouldn't be sneered at but I do think English folk in here don't fully understand the feeling of anti-britishness among some Scots.

You are right many don't understand. Could you explain why some scots are anti British?

The impression I get is that they don't like the English and the see British as basically being English so they don't like it. But why is that? Why don't they like the English. I have no hard feelings to people of any race and I am baffled when people come out with (generic comment) hate towards millions of people based on a war hundreds of years ago, or a comment by a politician or a sports star.

Many scots seem to see the British government as being an English government. Why I have no idea. Obviously the majority of a cabinet will tend to be from England was that's where the majority of the population is but that's just the way it is. I live in northampton, how often do I see anyone with any real power from around where I live? Rarely, I feel no connection to those in power.

If Scotland got independence in 50 years time many people in Glasgow would be hating those awful stuck up snobs from Edinburgh who run their country.

So your not going to respond to my question and your calling me pompous? You say many people dont understand why many scots are anti British but then won't explain why :fp: yeah ok. Start a discussion but then won't have it

I have no idea what you are talking about.

The Scottish Government spent some money (mainly internally) but it's going to pale in comparison to the world of hurt coming this way. The shredders would have come indyref or no indyref. This was Scotland's chance to change that, but it blew it.

Now we can go back to our Labour leader gleefully opening food banks.

But if you are saying that spending cuts would have come with either a yes or no vote then I don't understand why you are saying a comment like a bright future has been secured? Surely there was no alternative then?

I'm not having ago just don't understand your comment.
