No but you can pretend other players are very stupid/very smart AI. Sounds like a story mode may be coming at some point.

Yep, you can play on your own, choose the sloop, it's the smallest of the boats and easy to manage on your own.

You can play on your own on any boat, you just choose boat then 'closed crew' which means it won't populate boat with others and you can invite people to your boat should you want to.

It's been like that now for months, MM obviously hasn't played it for a while. :(

I finally accepted my Pioneer (closed beta for updates) invite at weekend and essentially had to start that version from start. It has something of a mini tutorial which it never had before.

Aren't there still other people in the game with you on other ships?

Nope, you have the option of 'closed crew' as I said and you're on your own. if you mean on your own entirely then no, it's an online only game and there's other boats around but with minimal skill you can out run others.

Yeah, as I said 'on other ships'. I was wondering if Errkal meant completely solo? Some just don't like online play.

It being online is cool, I just like to play a game on my own and not be forced to play with others if I dont want to.

Just be aware that you might occasionally run into someone whose idea of fun is to completely ruin your day, but I think updates have helped with that.

Sloops turn faster than other ships so if another Sloop is bothering you, if you angle sails, it essentially can't catch you, when it comes to other boats just do a quick u turn and it may get 1 or 2 shots at you but that's easy to deal with, the real threat is when parked up at an island but just keep watch.

Feb 9th update will make you download the game again but the game install size will be more than half of what it is now and will only get incrementally bigger with each update going forward to keep game install size small.

XB1 - 25gb goes down to 10gb
XB1X - 45gb goes down to 25gb
PC - 47gb goes down to 27gb

I can't see me ever watching Dr Disrespect. He seems like a massive tool. Yeah, it's his thing, but nah. You're alright.

Now ninja is streaming this, Dr Disrespect is alright in small doses, Ninja's face is WAY too punchable tho.

MS are not paying these guys either according to Mike Ybarra, still find it really odd.

I was on this two days back, and ended up almost sinking at the first island I reached. I put the anchor down as I'd heard a scraping. As I was boarding up a hole, I got blasted back from a cannon hitting the side. I tried boarding the hole up again, but more appeared. I had to manage bucketing the water out with making repairs, and trying to get away from that cannon. I had one plank remaining once I'd finally got away and finished repairs.

Played this a few times recently (twice) and, I dunno, it's like a really fun game and a great laugh, but I still think it's lacking in stuff. Like, maybe I'm not doing something, but it seems to be the same as before with named Skelton's that take an hour to kill and a bigger shark added.
