You get such a small amount of money and Hunter leveling that I just fish and hunt to have a better health bar tbh.

Just to add some context... This we our 2nd attempt at this tall tale. The night before we got constantly harassed by an oddly near unsinkable ship that we just gave up. This time we got to probably 75%+ the way through, just picking up some vital quest items for a ship to turn up and chase us. We had nothing of value but those items and the 2 hours we had put into the quest. We tried to run. They followed and followed.

Then Pedz did that.

The mast broke so the ship stopped. They rammed us from behind and boarded. Brave Grum  tried to keep hold of the items so they wouldn't sink but eventually got eaten by a shark. The items were lost at sea and the quest failed.

It was Pedz fault.

Brave Grum ran off while I came back killed the people on the ship and actually started repairing and bailing, had Grum stayed we'd have survived and escaped/took them out and won the day.

Had my first play at this last night, twas great fun and it really looks lovely. On our first mission we sailed to Shipwreck Cove, but accidentally added to the shipwrecks due to smashing into some rocks while performing an emergency handbrake turn (achievement unlocked!). We only noticed the damage when tomvek had to go back to the ship to pick up a sword he'd left on board, and by the time I got there it was half submerged, lol.

I wonder how many were doing the Tall Tales, I believe that when I did them with Matt and Grim. Not one of the achievements had 2% or more of people getting them. Most were under 1%

If there is a regular group who play on here and are short of a player I wouldn't mind giving this a bash tonight. Have never played it but it looks fun and I have gamepass ultimate now so nothing stopping me...

Theres no tutorial showing a beginner what to do. It all seems a bit overwhelming and theres no help. It started me off telling me to take a chest to a shop then buy some clothes then left me on an island with nothing to do. I quit out and then went to another island that had a ship, but i didnt know how to sail it, and figured i needed a crew to do so. I quit out and got onto an island that had three other players and two ships. One of the players just went around killing the other players. It all seems a bit shitty. Ive decided this game isnt for me.

EDIT: No, but thanks for the offer Photek. It would probably a bit of a waste of time, because i dont think i will play this again.

This is a very fun game, and it's pretty easy. Still don't get why people hate that this has no hand holding and then say how amazing Shite Souls and sites that as one reason (No clue if you like Souls tbh, just using it as an example.) It's also not hard to lower a sail and raise an anchor.

Been thinking of buying an Xbox to play this (!).
I don't think my old laptop will run the windows version :/

Been watching all the Neebs Gaming videos and it looks amazing and such a hoot to play.

Anyone still play this?

I fired this up for a good few hours last night. Set out on some voyages, and not soon after while on an island a Galleon comes along and sinks my parked ship. They then take the space my ship occupied as I then realise why they were here. I got caught up in a skele-swarm, and take them all down single-handed, thus completing their objective for them. And how do they thank me? Kill me as I watch the last of my ship sink underwater.

Once respawned, I avoid that island until the end [the voyage had given me four quests] and thankfully they were no longer there. Instead they were at the nearest outpost I was soon to head to, where they again fire upon my ship, and as I'm making a delivery kill me again [thankfully there wasn't much treasure on-board as I make to an outpost as soon as there's treasure loaded up]. Once respawned, one of them offered a banana to make up for the mayhem they'd caused, and were on their way again.

That would be the last I'd encounter them, but there was still one more encounter left to face. The Kraken. While I didn't defeat it in some awesome battle of the ages, I did enough to make it loose its hold on me and sailed as fast as I could away from it. When it came to head back to the outpost [with three chests on-board], I was hoping that I wouldn't encounter it again as I saided in the same area. Pretty sure it was still in the same area, as I could hear its call across the wilds.

I might just spend one or two more sessions on this across the next week.

Pirate Emporium Launches with Pets, Emotes and Liveries

Let us bring you in on some of the planning that went into Sea of Thieves' premium store!

We’re looking forward to this month’s content update, Smuggler’s Fortune, which will go live on Wednesday. It’s a big release and contains a lot of content including new Voyages, Duke’s Black Market cosmetic shop where players can spend Doubloons and gold, more aggressive Skeleton Ships and even roaming Skeleton Sloops!

We’re also very pleased to finally launch the Pirate Emporium, our new premium store selling a range of items such as pets, emotes and ship liveries including some that celebrate Rare’s rich heritage.

Following our preview stream where we went into detail about the Pirate Emporium, I also wanted to write a post here to make sure everyone knows what’s coming and what to expect. While we’ve always been 100% open about our plans to introduce premium Sea of Thieves items purchasable with real money, we realise that it’s an emotive subject and we want to make sure everyone is kept in the loop.

Firstly, I’d like to share a bit more information about how this store will work. The Pirate Emporium can be accessed in two ways: from the main menu screen when you first access the game, or in-game above the Order of Souls at any Outpost (or in The Arena tavern). Once there, you’ll find a range of initial items including monkeys and parrots to purchase as pets, a set of new emotes that can be added to your emote radial and a full ship livery set inspired by Rare’s beloved Banjo-Kazooie games.

To buy items from the Pirate Emporium, you’ll need a new currency called Ancient Coins. These can be purchased directly from the Xbox Store or from the Emporium in-game, and they are available in five bundles ranging from 150 coins costing $1.99 to a bundle of 4,250 coins at $34.99. Ancient Coins can also be found emergently in-game by finding and killing Ancient Skeletons, but these encounters will be a rare surprise so make sure you keep your wits about you and take them down when they do appear!

With Sea of Thieves having been live for 18 months now, the time feels right to finally add a premium store. It’s an important step forward for us and will help ensure the game’s long-term sustainability. That said, this wasn’t a decision we made lightly, and we have tried to bring the Pirate Emporium to the game in a way that respects our players and community.

When thinking about how our Emporium should operate, the team were guided by three key principles which help to ensure that players get a fair deal. These principles are:

Transparency: Players should always know what they are buying and how much it will cost. There are no random loot box mechanics in our premium store.

Fairness: Everything we bring to the Pirate Emporium will be entirely optional for players. While we will sometimes rotate items in and out of the store, we will make sure that this isn’t done too quickly and players have plenty of opportunity to get the items they want. This is something we have been working through with our Insiders during testing, and we’ve heard their feedback and taken it on board.

No pay-to-win: Everything in the Pirate Emporium is purely cosmetic and doesn’t have any impact on abilities, stats or power, ensuring that there will always be a level playing field regardless of amount spent.

If you don’t find anything in the Pirate Emporium that grabs you at launch, check back each month as we add new items with each of our ongoing Monthly Content Updates.

Meanwhile, if you have feedback on the Pirate Emporium – or any element of the Smuggler’s Fortune update – be sure to visit the official Sea of Thieves Forums.

See you on the seas!
