Having started this the other day and loved it, I had an infuriating session this morning to the point where I probably won't play it again.
Get a mission, get killed as I board my ship. Come back, set off, stop at an island nearby, get killed by another player sinking my ship. Respawn again, guy comes straight for me and kills me again. Finally make it to my destination island, dig a few chests up, load them on to my ship to find a crew of people arrive, repeatedly kill me, sink my ship, then steal my treasure. About 3 hours play with nothing to show for it. What a total bag of gooseberry fool, you'd think it would make the very start of the game a bit more friendly for beginners.

Yeah, that can be a problem. I found doing the structured story stuff was a bit better as it puts you in your own instance when doing the actual quest. But there should be something that actively discourages that sort of play.

How do I get to that stuff? I've been picking up the quests from the gold runners tent and trying to do those

Pick a pirates life from main menu, also, If you get killed by anyone quit and go back to main menu and start another game you should be put into a diff server…

Thanks. I've been choosing whatever the left most option is, so I'll look out for the other one.

I'm genuinely amazed they haven't even got the option of PvE servers, or areas where the more experienced players *can't* just seal club the newbies. It's a proper shambles.
Even the "private" content creator servers block you from any actual progression, so they're rubbish.

The pirates life stuff is great. I’m trying to get a couple of mates to start playing it as it really benefits from playing as a crew.

Thanks for the advice. I did the first pirates life mission, it was great, very much like the pirates of the Caribbean ride

I think it’s the original dialogue? I may be wrong though. Did you catch the monkey island references?

Yeah, openworld type games can be a bit unwelcoming to newcomers and more so if they're multiplayer as well. I think - from watching Pedz, Matt and others play this a couple of years back! - that you need a bit of space to learn the game and work stuff out; so avoiding other players can be a good thing. It's luck as to whether this happens, though! I think it's probably more approachable as a multi-player game; Pedz and the guys used to team-up to battle others.
It looked to be good fun and, yeah, the water effects are legit brilliant.
