Played this last night, the Blowy shell thing is hilarious, found one in a sunken shipwreck. The new double gun is very underpowered and it has 3 cosmetics that are locked behind tasks I apparently haven't done yet despite my over 310hrs of play so it's boring compared to my tricked out sniper etc.

The Harpoon's in this where already useful for getting loot quickly onto the boat but now that you can walk on the rope they are essential and make's traversing with loot to and from islands/outposts an absolute breeze.

Used the new skelly bomb and 3 skellies destroyed a Skeleton Lord for me which was funny to watch.

An excellent upgrade - online performance was perfect.

If you play through this at first in Safer Seas and play all story content/level up etc… can you carry all unlocks and such into High Seas if you want to give that a go? Or is it a separate characters for each mode?

What unlocks? You don't level up in Sea of Thieves so it's a confusing query.

In terms of levelling up the trading companies and all the cosmetics you have, everything is available in High Sea's.

To stop any confusion, differences are:

Safer Sea's: A third of gold/reknown when you turn in items.
Max Level in Trading companies is 40.

High Sea's: Full amount of gold/reknown when you turn in items.
Max Level in Trading Companies is 100.

You keep everything between both modes from Ships you own, to clothes/guns you unlocked to pets/trinkets, and everything you unlocked in the the Tall Tales/Pirates of the Carribean/Monkey Island etc.

So you can play in Safer Sea's and level up the Trading companies to Level 40 then switch over to High Sea's to go above 40 but it is MUCH slower to get to 40 in Safer Sea's and I personally wouldn't recommend it.

Nice, this is what I wanted to make sure of. I wanted to play Safer Seas to do the story content and get used to the game and then when I’m ready switch to High Seas. I just wanted to make sure any progress I made in one mode carried into the other

On sale on Steam now so i’ll pick it up :toot:

The Pirates of the Caribbean and Monkey Island Story content is selectable from the title screen now, no need to go to the actual game first and sail about.

Best play the tutorial first to learn the basics, enjoy man, maybe we'll meet up as some stage!

Thanks, yeah, once I’ve played it a bit and got used to it all the plan is to switch to High Seas and carry on the pirate life.

Yeah, this is good isn’t it, I’ve done the tutorial and played the tutorial quest for gold hoarders so far but the game has a ton of charm. Still getting to grips controlling the boat on my own  early days though so I’m sure it’ll click for me soon. Looks like a nice world to explore, graphically it looks amazing, I’m playing on Steam Deck OLED and it pops on that screen!

Will put more time into this over the weekend for sure.

Some q’s I have early in my travels so far

- Using the map in the ship and the one in your inventory. There is no way of actually setting waypoints that show up in game is there? I’m not missing something obvious  when l mark something on the map in the ship I tend to steer the ship then keep nipping back to the map table to make sure I’m going in the right direction.

- Pirate emporium, what are the different currencies for? I have about £3k standard gold coins but it seems cosmetic items are tied to ancient coins? Can they be earned in-game? What can I use the standard gold coins for?

- Plunder pass/season pass, Do you just level up these passes as you play naturally? Can you purchase previous access previous seasons to get the loot or have those been and gone due to time limits?

- There is no waypoints at all really, they want you to be able to use the compass and work out your own way. If you're on a sloop (presumably you are) you can look over the balcony just behind the wheel at the map below, it saves you having to run down stairs all the time.

- I've never bought a plunder pass but I THINK it is time limited per season, you level up the 'normal' 100 as you sail, I take no notice of it usually and just playing the game will progress it.

- There are 3 main Currencies in Sea of Thieves:

Gold - earned in game and you can spend on cosmetics both Gun,sword and Clothes related. You'll see a lot of stuff in shops locked but if you hover over them it should tell you how to unlock.
Doubloons - earned in game but for more particular items, All Ashen (and Reaper) chests, keys etc give you doubloons and gold. I don't seek out to get doubloons but just playing the game I've a fair amount now.
Ancient Coins - Need real money. Also - Have a Look around the Emporium as they sometimes have free emotes and other small items.

It is Gorgeous (DAT WATER), it's 4K 60FPS on Series X and the HDR in this game is ridiculously good.

Cheers, I’ll have another play around tonight and check the map stuff, I don’t mind using the compass etc… to find stuff. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something

Yeah, it’s gorgeous, on Steam Deck it’s running at medium settings but on the small OLED screen it looks beautiful.
