How to start in Sea of Thieves

Firstly, to begin your journey on becoming a pirate worthy of a tale you must first choose a voyage and take on the challenges lying ahead. To do so simply visit one of the companies mentioned below and acquire their initiate voyage for 0 gold. Once acquired head to your boat and place the voyage on the table behind your ship's map to begin your adventure. Once chosen and voted on you'll be given a map or objective and must complete it in order to obtain the required item, which you can store on your boat until you are safely docked at any of the nearby outposts located in the world.

Simply put, Sea of Thieves is a game where you can literally do whatever you want; be it swimming around shark-infested waters, taking on voyages to become the next legendary pirate of the seven seas or ferrying pigs across large swathes of #GreatWater - Sea of Thieves lets you do many things at once or one thing for awhile. The ocean is your sandbox and it is up to you on the toys you want to play with.

Currently there are THREE Companies present in SoT. These are: The Gold Hoarders, The Order of Souls and The Merchant Alliance. Each one beckons you on a different voyage type that will have you fighting enemies for their own treasured possessions, scurrying the land for that chicken to bring back in time for dinner or questioning your ability to solve riddles in return for the rarest of treasure. Each company has its own tiered ranking that you gain experience for by completing their voyage or task, with each significant tier unlocking harder quests or even the most lucrative of shiny gear to bequeath your inner pirate fashionista.

But that isn't all that Sea of Thieves has to offer, with Skeleton Fortress raids to conquer around the world that will require the best of the best pirates and a barrel load of bananas to boot. These raids will shower you in treasures a pirate could only dream of, but beware it isn't to be taken lightly. There are also rumours of a deep-sea creature lurking beneath the ocean's waves, ready to strike at any moment with its many tentacles and poisonous saliva but only few have survived to tell the tale of what is known as The Kraken.

Current enemies/NPCs in the game:

Skeletons (can use Pistol, Blunderbuss or Cutlass)
Gold Skeletons
Plant Skeletons
Shadow Skeletons
Skeleton Captain
The Kraken
Sharks
Snakes
Pigs
Chickens

Along your journey to be the Legendary Pirate you'll face many dangers, so be well equipped and banana at the ready to take on these challenges. At times you'll fear even the most smallest of enemies to begin with but gaining strength means gaining combat knowledge, but also beware of even harder enemies to come as you grow. Sail strong, pirate, and may the most lucrative treasures come before your hands.

The freedom of pirate life awaits in Rare's next adventurous voyage!

It's not revolutionary as PlayTonic hype made me think, but it looks like good fun. I love Pirate themed stuff, and sea shanties. So this could be good!

An hour later and only one post in a thread about a new Rare game. How far they've fallen.

Just read that this is a multiplayer-only MMO. There goes what little interest I had in it.

The moment you saw that other player running past with no interaction you could just tell it was gonna be a fairly standard MMO

Just realized that our very own Tiarny is working on this game. He's gonna be so disappointed in the reaction here.

I'd be much more interested if it was SP

Skimming through the GAF thread to find some info etc & it seemed to get a pretty positive reaction.

Thought this looked lovely, but hearing it's an MMO is a huge disappointment. The art style is beautiful though.

I was expecting complete and utter adoration.

But seriously, it's interesting to see the feedback. We only wanted to show a teaser, I have faith that time and more information will only improve things. I think I can safely clarify that we didn't call it an MMO, only the person who made the GAF thread did. Eurogamer, Kotaku, etc. don't call it an MMO in their articles either.

Although I think we can all agree that when the cannonballs start flying, my shanty singing really makes the scene, right? It might have only been in audio form, but at least I can scratch "appear at E3" off the bucket list. :toot:

Reading the stuff people said about this game way before it was shown and seeing the footage... their hype and what I am seeing doesn't match. I didn't buy into the hype, nor am I dismissing the game, but I would love to be able to see through their eyes to help me "get it".

I'll give it the benefit of doubt at start, if its a huge pirate mmo it could be awesome, loved how it looked.

What's with all the MMO hate? I think it looks great, and there are not enough console MMOs, so happy to see a new contributor.

Count me down as another who would love this game if it was single player. I'm just not that into multiplayer games, but the world and style looks great!
