Sea of Thieves has been played by more than fifteen million players since launch in March 2018. June 2020 was the biggest month so far for Sea of Thieves, with over 3.3 million players setting sail. Sea of Thieves has sold over 1 million copies to date on Steam since its launch on June 3, 2020.
It’s both thrilling and humbling to share with you that Sea of Thieves has been played by more than fifteen million players since our launch in March 2018.
The way that the game and its community has continued to grow has been amazing to see. It was only in January of this year when we shared that 10 million people had played the game! We’re also humbled that more people have played Sea of Thieves in the first six months of 2020 than who played in the whole of 2019, which was more than 2018.
Last month – June 2020 – was also the biggest month so far for Sea of Thieves in terms of active players, with more than 3.3M players setting sail. A contributing factor to this growth has been our recent launch on Steam. We’ve been blown away by the support we’ve seen from the Steam community, with over 1M copies of the game having been sold so far and the game regularly appearing in the top selling and most played games charts.
On behalf of all of us at Rare, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who’s ever played Sea of Thieves for helping to get us this far. It’s a game that we love making, and there’s plenty more to come. See you on the seas.

Never had a problem being solo. Someone had left the final boss of one of the new questlines running which unfortunately was the destination I needed, but other that that it's fine to run solo as long as you don't try to hoard a load of treasure.

That All said, we really should get a crew together some night. Taking on a fort takes literally an hour with 2 players (never attempted it alone) but with 4 should be 30mins, the rewards are huge.

Next update is Wednesday. The monthly updates in this game are generally huge, they add A LOT of stuff each month that stacks on top of all the other stuff. No idea how they've kept up this cadence...
Maybe tonight's a bit soon to be getting such together, but it would be good we not come to any other agreement over a game for Multiplayer Monday tonight.

I got to bed early on mondays, Fri/Sat night would suit me.
I'm giving it a bit of rest at the moment, but this is my favourite online game ever. My son and I have sunk so many hours into it since release and it just gets better and better.
I watched a couple of streams over the weekend to try and get an idea of what you actually do in this. I don't mean this in a derogatory way but does it follow a typical mmo style of doing things to get loot?
Playing a lot of CoD over the past few months had reminded me how much I enjoy team based multiplayer but it would be cool to have something a bit less intense.

Well, you get treasure chests and skulls and other things in terms of loot that you need to bring back to an outpost to sell, finding them either through missions or at random. That gives you coins which you can spend for customisation options.
I would say, (and this might sound contrived) It’s nothing like any MMO I’ve played. You don’t level up, everyone is the same stats and equipment/guns/swords, game knowledge and experience are your main Benefits. It’s grind is a little more free form. From the off you can do several things at once or just go exploring. There’s a 10hr+ campaign you can opt in and out of (and it saves checkpoints)
You can work for an emissary: treasure chests/Bounties (now with ghost ship bounties)/merchant deliveries of animals, goods or go after everyone else and work for the reapers.
Then there’s the hunters call we’re you can catch fish and sell (or cook and eat you give you extra health.)
Plus a load of emergent stuff like forts that you have to kill wave after wave of skeletons followed by a boss battle to get insane loot, the sunken ships to search, cargo barrels in the sea to get supplies, ashen bosses on islands, reapers chests shown to everyone on map and tracks you when you pick it up. The Megaladon, the kracken, AI pirate ships that patrol (big ones won’t attack a small boat (sloop) but there are sloop AI pirate ships that make for excellent battles you can beat alone) then the storms... also about a 2hr other campaign in the new volcano region... it’s absolutely jammed full of things to do...
I could actually do Saturday evening. I would be a complete novice mind, although i could probably find time to do the tutorial thing ahead of that is it would make me slightly less annoying.
I'm sure you'd learn just by watching others. All you really need is to know the controls. We'd start basic should we all join up. Very unlikely I'd be able to voice chat along with everyone, though.

More often than not i am unable to voice chat either. But this Sat evening i probably could for a change.
