PostRe: Sea of Thieves (XSX/XSS/XB1/Win10/Steam) - Over 15m players. Vaults of the Ancients Update & Dogs out now (p62)

I think raising the flag of a trading company when solo might be a mistake.

I raised it as soon as I joined the game, then set off on a voyage for Gold. On Smuggler's Cove, I immediately ran into an Ashen Captain, who dropped a new quest. I found some tattered parchment, which also gave me a new quest. Then a second Ashen Captain appeared as I delivered the chest from the original quest. I followed the first Ashen quest to get an Ashen Chest, and on the way found an Ashen Captain's Chest. By this point, I'm a grade 2 emissary. I was then following the next quest, not realising that I was now a viable target for others, and spent quite some time trying to find the shaded library of the east.

Since I'd parked on the east side of the island, I see a Galleon heading my way. Someone had already jumped out despite being a bit of a distance away and the cannons were already firing. Quickly I'd jumped on my ship and tried heading off, but that just played right into their hands. The one who had jumped off was now on my ship, and as I tried repairing the mast which had been destroyed, I heard the anchor being dropped. That person then killed me, and had no doubt reported to the others my current cargo. Just as I was about to head back to the land of the living, the game crashed.

I really pushed my luck with that entire session. There was an outpost immediately south of my position I could have gone to offload as soon as I had those Ashen chests, but no... As usual, I felt nothing could go wrong.

Helpful video!

It's a double gold/reputation weekend, so I'm jumping in. Just done the maiden voyage, and already I can imagine what a nightmare it would be to try and do ship to ship battles as a solo player.

If you’re lucky you should be ok, most people should leave you alone.

Played a few hours and just came across one guy. I’d stopped to sell 3 crates of cargo for a merchant quest, and came back to my ship to find he’d taken one crate and raised the anchor. I didn’t see a ship and he just jumped off into the sea and disappeared.

Might try playing with randoms today.

Sharks are scary things. Especially in large numbers.

Gonna be rocking that set tonight, I honestly think the bump to 60 has an even more drastic effect in this game as the sea now moves more realistically also. The tests on games so far, to me feel like I'm running them on a powerful PC, clean 4K and 60fps. I hope 60fps is the new standard. LOD distance seems to be increased by a fair bit on this also btw.

- 11m unique players played SoT in this year
- Steam saw 1 million new players within a month. Also from alot of new countries. Korea and China were big factors
- Playerbase is now 50/50 between PC and Xbox
- Arena will be supported. But wont get big updates anymore
- Been doing monthly updates since July 2019. Seasons will start in January and will last around 3 months
- Every 3 months a big content update and during the season events, patches etc
- New Season progression system. Biggest change to progression since launch
- 100 levels and series of Pirate trials giving rewards. Shorter sessions possible even without finishing and still moves you forward. Progress moves forward outside of trading companies also.
- Premium pass called Plunder Pass with extra rewards you get during the 100 levels
- Each month a featured live event
- New merchant. Detective

Not sure how I feel about a 'pass'. I mean, I'm not sure I play it enough. I have enough already in PUBG for the next pass. :fp:

Some of the stuff in the emporium (paid content) looks great so if I can grind to that I might get it.

It's depressing but sadly in the current climate, somewhat inevitable a game of this type would go down the season pass route - pretty every similar game has done the same.

Your personal viewpoint and how much you play probaby dictates whether the injection of seasonal content and items offsets the cost of the premium pass. It's usually been about £8 in other games which isn't too bad. The problem is, of course, that you still need to play the game and often grind to unlock stuff that pass. You don't own almost all of it even after purchase.

Destiny's seasonal structure has so far been... decent, with only one really duff season. So we'll see how this goes.

I've read further into this, and the free pass will include all the main rewards, the paid pass mainly unlocks discounts in the pirates emporium plus only a few extra bonus items.

Personally I think it's a great idea and gives something more long term to focus on. Should keep me playing longer! :D
