Think I'm done with this for the time being. Just so bored of it.

Did the lack of content not come up during the numerous alphas and betas?

Was doing a bounty from a message in a bottle earlier on my own, tactfully lined up my sloop near the beach and lured the Skellies to the beach then hopped back on board and destroyed them with cannonballs, the 2 boss pirates remained unscathed, I used up all my canon balls and made several sorties to shore to shoot them. I noticed when it was dark that when they walked in the water they had a green effect around them.

I realised that the water must heal them, ran in onto sand and took them on away from the shore, not only could I kill them but they visibly dried up (they had plants on them) and slowed down. I enjoyed that battle all the same even if was late to cop on. :fp:

No Man's Sea.

Sounds like they're just the latest in a long line of devs to release an unfinished shell of a product to much fanfare, only to be hit by a tidalwave of backlash in response.

You would think that they'd have learned not to do that by now.

Hopefully it'll be up to scratch by the end of the summer.

If only they had stuff like AI ships, decent missions with interesting rewards, varied enemy types (off the top of my head; rogue pirate clans, corsair groups, sea monsters, invading army ships, undead ships, legendary figures/bosses like Blackbeard and Davey Jones etc etc etc), home bases for clans*, an actual clan system, a reward for killing the kraken, weekly public events, more stuff to buy than cosmetic items, a better/functional combat system, more ship types, a character creator, ship customisation**, a bounty system for prolific players, plot based missions, decent NPCs, more interesting stuff on the islands (anything on the islands in fact) and some decent tutorials it'd be a great game!

*from the start, not as some end-game unlockable
**beyond 'buy this new figurehead'

They’re not oversights, they’re design decisions.

EDIT: For what it's worth I think the game looks like it could be a lot of fun. From the reaction I'm guessing it probably needs another 6 months of patches and content updates, but I hope they pull it off.

It's exactly that: a fun romp for a few hours with a shit-ton of potential.

Another observation: the gold accumulation rate vs item prices is waaaaay out of whack. I've spent a good 5 hours with the game and still do not have enough money to by a weapon upgrade.

Well NMS did eventually become a much more rounded and complete product and I've no regrets picking up an other copy, but yeah that's still no excuse for releasing full price games with very little content. Unfortunately it seems the industry is moving ever closer to a place where it's quite acceptable to do so. That said, as long as Rare/MS, like Hello Games, don't charge for additional and much needed content for SoT then I guess it'll work out.

They're not upgrades, they're skins for the weapons you already have.

Yup.

What's worse is the cost of ship cosmetics, 20,000+ for one.

This game seems to be an absolute joke, from what I've seen from reviews. Honestly there should be more controversy, in my opinion. This kind of half arsed effort is not OK when you're charging £50. It wasn't OK with No Man's Sky, it wasn't OK with Destiny 1/2 and it's not OK here. Frankly it should never have been released in this state, they should have delayed it for another year and presented something with merit. I feel quite strongly about this example and the others that I have mentioned due to the amount of undeserved hype they received on the run up to their releases.

Reviews in

Metacritic 71 - http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/sea-of-thieves

Very mixed reviews, depends on the perspective, recommending the current game or the potential.

Hope Microsoft stick with it, obviously released a year early, looked great at E3, just needs cleaning out now.

I think it's because the vast majority of players haven't spent £50. They've got the 2 week Game Pass trial and are playing for free and this does feel like a (very good looking) free to play game. It'll be fascinating to see the player drop-off starting from next week.

Wait wait wait.

What?

In that case where can I get myself a shotgun or sniper rifle if not from the weapons shop?

Also, what?

EDIT: You know what, scratch my previous Elite Dangerous comparisons, this is way worse than that game in terms of content. There's literally nothing here beyond the first hour of play apart from the potential and some lovely sunsets.

I think you can switch between the three guns on your ship.

You have two weapon slots, and can visit an armory on your ship or at the weapons shop to swap weapons. If you so chose, you could have two guns and leave out any close-quarters combat opportunities.

My mates and I are enjoying the more sedate shenanigans in this in between Rocket League and PUBG.

After having a look a couple of the reviews you'd have to say adding this to Game Pass was a master stroke to avoid controversy.

The only downside is that it probably makes it a bit disposable and people might not come back liie they would had it cost £40.

I think it’s the opposite, as they update it it’ll be constantly in the news cycle and I think Game Pass will bring in greater numbers.
