In Mad Max, there's no need to run into camps and use fisticuffs or guns to despatch the initial enemies. Roll up in your car and use the harpoon to pick them out from a distance.

At the fishing place you can catch the guy's hairnet with the fishing rod.

Large versions of certain mobs appear if you kill enough of them. Not just the skulchilds but the crows and others I believe. And bigger and bigger ones spawn if you keep at it.

All true but the latter has an interesting twist if you can freeze the game time....

they wont ever stop getting bigger.

I went through Resident Evil 4 this week. Always look for nests in the trees at the start of the game, shoot them down.

Actually, just keep an eye on the ceilings as well. There's some very high value treasure hidden away that really helps your playthrough.

Edit - I have been through Ocarina of Time so many times, and I had no idea about the Deku Stick trick

Always liked this reference to the opening tutorial from Thief: The Dark Project which they included in Dishonored 1:

There are a few other nods to Thief and other immersive sims sprinkled throughout the Dishonored series as well. Its a genre that seems to like putting these little winks to other similar titles quite frequently and it always brings a little smile to my face when I spot them! :)

Nothing created by the developers in GTA is funny aka Sam Houser needs to get that really gooseberry fool Tarantino film out of his system and retire from writing entirely.

I don't get the term immersive sim. It odd to me, and I only heard it for the first time about 2 or 3 years ago. Like wouldn't any game be immersive sim, and if not why is Dishonored an immersive sim? Why is doom not? It's immersive and simulates you killing a strawberry float ton of stuff, whereas Dishonored just adds powers? It makes no sense to me.

It's more about games aiming to provide the player with systems and tools and creating understandable and consistent rules about how those operate and interact with one another to support multiple approaches to problems, encourage emergent gameplay and prioritise player agency.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immersive_sim

Lots of games do some of these things to a certain degree, particularly as time has moved on we've seen these elements bleed out into many genres, but immersive sims tend to have this stuff as more of a focus and aim to implement it to a far greater depth.

An Immersive Sim is a game with multiple overlapping systems or mechanics that can be exploited by the player to bypass goals in a multitude of ways. They're usually first person.

DOOM is not an Immersive Sim as your only way to progress is to shoot things. Skyrim is not as if it's quests have multiple endings these are usually achieved through differing paths intended by the developer rather than the exploitation of contrasting systems.

It's not a very concisely titled genre but those under the umbrella do follow a set of similarities.

idk if it's much of a secret, but if you leave mario idle in one of the 3d games he'll fall asleep and say something, at least in mario 64 and odyssey
