Also +1 for the Mega Drive 2 design, it was the version I owned as a child (the Japanese version, in fact, with the grey and blue buttons). I can totally appreciate and enjoy the UK model 1, it's definitely cool looking and I don't mind having that version in Mini form, but I would have loved the v2 to really mirror my childhood memories.

Model 1 > Model 2. I had both, I just prefer 1.

I had Model 1 and my annoying cousin had Model 2.

Model 1 therefore wins.

My step sister had MD2 and I always felt that it just looked wrong.

It is still wrong, MD-1 supremacy (plus better sound and region compatibility).

I had a model 1 and my brother had a model 2 a few years later.

Mainly to stop us from arguing about whose turn it was and what game was being played.

Model 1 is a design classic. Model 2 is still a nice looking machine but it can't match the original.

Very tempted to pick this up, but I know I would play all the games way more if I just bought them on Switch.

Stupid thing is, I can go and put these games on my snes mini right now and be happy, but the megadrive being my first console and the fact M2 are involved makes it desirable.

The state of those 3 button pads though.

Whilst I've pre-ordered and am fully on board the hype train, I know deep down that this will be played for a little bit and then put away to sit in its box next to my NES and SNES Minis.

If the Sega Mega Drive Classics on Switch hits £20 I will most likely cancel my preorder and get that instead.

So what's the difference between this and those ones you see for sale with like 80+ games?

Build quality and emulation, in short. Those 80+ games ones usually have flimsy controllers and piss poor audio, as well as really shitty screens on the handheld ones.

I like both shrug

Don't think I'll get this one as £70 is bit too steep for me (and I have my favourites on Xbox anyway) but M2 and the fact it's a thing is great.

Shame SEGA said there's no plans for Saturn Mini :(

Considering the original only sold around 9.5m I'm not sure the potential audience would be big enough.

Sega Rally Champtionship (the best selling game in Europe) has licencing issues, hence why we've not seen a port since.

They also lost the code for Panzer Dragoon Saga :fp:

Yeah it's annoying because I love my Saturn but I would've grabbed mini version if it meant easier set up and all that.

At least I still got my Saturn, but I don't have Panzer Dragoon Saga sob

Or headphone socket.

I also love the power switch on the model 1, in a tech geek kind of way.

Nobody ever used the volume control, but it was essential that it was there.
