For me, the only time the newer MD became something I wanted, was once it was attached to the new look Mega-CD. (And maybe the 32-X as well.) Before then, it just looked like a under designed console. I'd probably feel differently about it if it was released as a fresh console now, but back then it compared poorly to the classic MD.

I have toki on the megadrive

Pre order is up on amazon US, so I'd imagine ours will be live very soon. I'll be getting one  I want a dummy mega CD and 32x to put on it too.

Shame about the 3 button pad, becuase I still have those and they are huuuuge and not very nice to use. The 6 button pads are so much better, but as this is using usb i bet you can always use a 3rd party one anyway. If there's a single controller option I'll probably go for that for that reason.

Also, are the LOL JUST USE A RASPBERRY PI crew ok? They've not arrived yet :simper:

I may have missed this, but have we heard that the controllers use "original" (i.e. Atari VCS type) connectors or are USB? I'd kinda thought that the original type would be used. Either way, we may be in luck if the upcoming Retro-Bit MD (six-button) controllers can link to the system; they're arriving in original and USB versions.

I like both the original three-button pad and the updated sixer  . The first still feels, to me, like the classic version whilst the newer version was dinky and lush.

There's literally no chance of it happening but if Rings of Power, Warriors of the Eternal Sun or Buck Rogers was on there I'd be in like Flynn.

My brother played that game loads! I never tried it but, from his gameplay, I recall it being a surprisingly deep strategy game with some repetitive music! Oh, and GR's own kerr9000 did a vid of the game:

Check out the Pre order images, you can see usb ports on the front

I was hoping they'd be original too so I could use my original controllers.

Good shout, Ad! Dang, that's a shame, though. I'm getting one of those Retro-Bit ones for my original MD.

It seems that the Western (Europe and US) versions of the mini will come with two three-button pads as standard, so that's pretty neat.

Besides Street Fighter what games actually made use of the 6 button pad?

Ta for the heads-up, Ad. I have pre-ordered... but, as with the SNES mini, I am ready to cancel if "no gaems", one-metre controller cables, rubbish emulation etc. We'll see!

Thanks for the shout out... I absolutely blooming love the Buck Rogers game, I think it's the sort of thing that would be great on a mini console as it's just so different from other games on the platform at the time.
