Selling a phone to CEX

I have an old phone which was originally locked to EE. I then got it unlocked when I changed network. I now want to sell it. I've done a factory reset before selling which, as far as I can tell, will have tied it back to EE (not tried it with a SIM card yet but seems logical). I have the codes to unlock it so I can get it back to being an any network phone.

My question is: will CEX accept this as an unlocked phone? Obviously if the next owner does a factory reset it'll go back to EE again, so that might be an issue.

And help appreciated :)

I'd say they won't accept that as an unlocked phone. Unlocked means it would need to be able to accept any network SIM right after a reset. If it reverts to EE and needs unlocking again after a reset then they'll take it as locked to EE, I sure as hell would.

Call EE they will give you the PUK to unlock it then it will work on any network regardless of factory reset etc. Once you pass 18 months of your contract I think it is they will give you the unlock code.

And they will test that it works which would include making sure it's unlocked if that's what you've told them.

I sell all my old phones through Envirofone, worth checking out and means you don't have to get your shoes dirty by walking into a CEX.

Same here, although EE's one (EE recycle) seems to give a little more on recent checks so might be worth a look.

You can request an unlock after 6 months as this is the point EE designate you as becoming the owner of the handset. If you are still within contract they will change you £8.99 for the unlock however if the handset is out of commitment then it is done free of charge.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, it seems to be unlocked as it worked on a different SIM. Turns out there are a couple of tiny cracks on the bezel so the best price I can get from anywhere that will take it (Cash Converters) at all is £15. Going to keep it as a spare at that price.
