They accept phones locked to certain networks but you'll get less for them as they have less resale value.

BTW consider any and all information from me potentially 10 years out of date since I last worked for them in 2006. Though if anything they're more accepting of stuff now - they never used to accept retro stuff for instance.

I sold a shed load of old CDs to Music Magpie years ago and they got a bit funny with me. They emailed me saying some of the discs weren't in the correct boxes and they couldn't accept them, which I know for a fact was bullshit. It was all CDs from Epitaph and Hellcat records that came in cardboard cases.

Do CeX take phones that are locked to a specific network or are they only interested in unlocked stuff?

Not sure, but the EU made it so carriers have to allow to unlock. iPhones unlock automatically after 6 months of ownership, Pixels are never locked, and if you are out of contract you should be able to contact your network and get the unlock codes.

Good point, I haven't actually checked the status of any of the phones yet so it may be that some of them are not actually locked any more.

If hey are locked to EE they have a tool that will tell you if they are locked.

Tested the phones I want to sell today and they are all unlocked so that's good news.

CeX looks like offering me the best prices by the looks of things, unless they massively underpay compared to what the website is suggesting! Only thing slightly concerning me is the small print online says about needing to include accessories where "All accessories means everything that would have originally come in the box."

Are they really going to screw me over because I haven't got the shitty headphones that came with a phone 4 years ago?

I wouldn't have thought so, I don't think they even take headphones if they aren't boxed. I tried selling them an unused but quite old set of iPhone headphones and they wouldn't take them as there was no box. For a phone I'd wager it would be fine as long as it has a charger.

I wouldn't have thought so, but maybe, for phones I usually use EE Recycle, they only require the phone, not chargers and gooseberry fool.

I have always used O2 recycle when I upgrade and they don't ask for the charger either.

We were only ever bothered about having the handset and charger when I worked at CeX.

You can be sure that the prices on the website are what you'll get in store (depending on what grade they give it etc) as they both use the same database. Prices can change daily though.

Cool thanks folks.

I've looked at a bunch of other phone recycling options and they all seem to offer a fair chunk less than CeX so I'll stick with them as my first option!

Dumped all my swag on CeX today, process was pretty painless although I only got about half of what I expected because some of the phones didn't pass their quality tests sadly.

Not too fussed as I just wanted shot of the stuff really but it would have been nice to get a few more quid. I briefly considered taking it back and trying to sell them individually but just couldn't be arsed!
