Theresa May set to reveal No 10 departure date on Friday
Theresa May is expected to announce the date of her departure from Downing Street on Friday, senior cabinet ministers have told the BBC.

Sources say they expect the PM to give a timetable for her successor to be chosen, with 10 June likely to be the start of the official leadership race.

Mrs May is also due to meet the chairman of Tory backbenchers.

She has been under pressure to resign, after an angry backlash by her own MPs against her latest Brexit plan.

The government was due to publish the Withdrawal Agreement Bill on Friday but this was delayed as criticism mounted.

BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg says ministers say they hope the campaign for the next Tory Pary leader can be finished by the end of July.

A leadership contest starting on 10 June would come after the state visit from US President Donald Trump and the Peterborough by election.

June is the end of May.

Let's be honest, she did an amazing job dragging this out. She should have been gone a long time ago.

I fear what comes next.

That's the problem.

I think May is comfortably the worst PM in living memory. But I think the next PM will be worse.

We're going to have Boris as Prime Minister without a general election, aren't we? :dread:

Ultimately it doesn't matter who is PM, the situation will still be exactly the same without a majority for anything.

The only way this can be resolved is with a Peoples Vote on Brexit, or a General Election to re-adjust the numbers in Parliament.

I think someone other that May could do a better job at actually finding compromise in order to bring more people on board with a plan, but I don't believe that person exists in the current government and I still don't think a compromise really exists that will please enough people.

Just put the damn thing back to a vote FFS!

The next PM doesn't have to call a general election until 2022 and so yeah we are probably getting Boris for the next 3 years.

I'll piss myself laughing if she refuses to leave and the 1922 Committee unsealed their dreaded envelope and the votes are to not change the rules.

Wonder if she'll stay on as an MP in the next GE.

Sad that the state of politics has reached the point that I'm cynical enough to believe that the voice-break and emotional walk away was part of the script.
