That's not a bad idea, Hime. I probably won't though because I kinda begrudge the pittance that GAME / CEX offers for games and, on PS4, I've been a digital downloader for a few years now. Will have a think about whether I really want this now or to wait for a price cut.

I know what you mean but time is money and all that. You must have a load of games that you're realistically never going to play and you may as well use the money.

That said, I bet this game will get real cheap, real quick.

93% on Metacritic

Eurogamer Essential. Once again, though, there is always some idiot in the comments section...

@mega-gazz

“PlayStation fans when Xbox gets the ability to play old games "nobody cares about playing games from years ago" PlayStation fans when when they get a re-release of an old game "omg this is amazing I'm taking the week off work to play it“

:fp:

Have to admit, between DF's high praise and the stellar reviews SotC PS4 is receiving I'm starting to find myself being swayed. Guess our Buffalo was right; sometimes you just gotta go for that definitive version.

It's getting a helluva lot of acclaim. It seems to be very much a remake rather than a port / remaster... Bluepoint has done a fantastic job in making the game look as astounding today as it did back in 2006.

From what I've read it does seem to be a whole new game without actually being a whole new game. If that makes sense.

The HD PS3 version of SotC still has Ico along side it so I'm not going to trade it, but...what the hell, I've changed my mind. Will be buying the SotC remake.

Yeah that’s why I was bleating on yesterday - a proper hardcore remake of something objectively brilliant? Sign me up anywhere, anytime. I tried the PS3 rejig and got 3 collisi in, it hadn’t aged well at all.

Hey man, I put my hands up. I was majorly wrong about this one. Clearly more than just a flashy remaster.

My calming down on buying games this year has really gone to pot - and we're still in January.

I really want to get this, but it's so badly timed coming straight after MHW. No way I have time for it atm :(

Damn, we've already had 2 game of the year contenders in the space of a week.

There goes my wallet

What was the other game of the year contender?

I have just pre-ordered Shadow - will be my first PS4 game since Uncharted 4 :toot:

Monster Hunter World is my guess.

Ah, I forgot about that one.

Shadow does look amazing, but my one concern was Eurogamer describing it as a boss run...

That's the core concept of the game

They are more like puzzles than traditional game bosses, if you're worried about getting frustrated by dying repeatedly to multiple stages. That probably won't happen.

Thanks. I hate the boss runs in the Mario 3D games, but this sounds quite different.

I love the original for its atmosphere, mystery and grandeur.

But I always felt the Colossi were just a little too easy. I realise it's not the point, but the music would blare these outrageously epic, desperate tunes whilst as a player you could quite calmly amble around or take your time replenishing your stamina gauge etc. The sense of peril engendered by the visual scale and the music wasn't really backed up by a second-by-second sense of peril in the actual gameplay. I never really thought 'phew!' after beating them.

(by phew I mean instinctively sticking my middle finger up at the screen and saying f*ck you - which is usually my reflex when a game segment has been tense)

As a world and a mood to bathe in though, it's fantastic. Tempted by this remake.

This has made me a wee bit keener, doc! A grand epic in which one can wander about sounds right up my street!
