Just beat the great ape.... I did the second phase by running towards his death scream and since I used a few power ups I powered through it and won.

Now onto the next boss.....

Playing through the castle again and fighting the boss I realised I'm really not enjoying this nor have I been for a large amount of my playthrough.

If I beat a boss it's normally down to boring memorising of a routine or cheating using an exploit.

So I quit and uninstalled it.

A game best described as not for me. It had enjoyable parts but the actual experience of it and the difficulty for difficulty sake just isn't what I play games for.

Happy to have had the chance to play it and looking forward to whatever From Software make next (hopefully not Sekiroo 2)

I felt like this fighting the boss on the boat at the start of Nioh so I’m kinda dreading playing this.

Great thing about Nioh if you can summon in a high level player to help. Or grind for a bit. Or try different weapons and guardian spirits.

I've kind of put this on the back burner. While I would normally be going hard in on the Souls games to get them done, along with running the required NG+ runs for platinum, I doubt I'll bother here. For much of the same reason.

It got better when the game clicked for me, but I still don't feel like I'm enjoying myself all that much. Didn't help that the last boss I fought were the screen monkeys and they were awful.

I'll likely just save scum the endings so I don't have to replay it more than once, and even then I hear almost all of the game can be skipped on repeat playthroughs. The main problem is that there's not nearly as much replay value from From's other recent games. I know this isn't Soulsborne in nature, and is closer to Tenchu, so it's unfair to hold it up to the same standards as the former, but when a game requires multiple playthroughs to get everything each one should be different enough (access to a huge variety of gameplay styles like Soulsborne games, or different enemy placements and abilities like DMC) or just be an 11/10 game to play (again, like DMC).

T;DR- I'll keep chipping away at the platinum just so it can sit completed beside Demons', Dark 1-3, and Bloodborne, but then I doubt I'll think about it much, if at all, later. If any DLC drops for it I'll probably pass on it.

I’m feeling pretty Godly with the combat right now. Took down several minibosses and another core boss this evening including finally besting the headless strawberry float in the Forest.

I have a lot of items I have no idea what to go with.

I don’t really get the replayability complaints. I don’t see how this comes off worse than Souls, the weapon variety I guess, but trying every weapon was never really an incentive to replay the game. I think the combat in this has a higher skill bar so I think it would offer more incentive, plus it has the higher difficulty settings.

Do the bosses change their patterns at higher difficulties? Because right now with the way the combat works if you beat the boss it means you've beaten it. You have the parry timings down and with that solidified they have nothing.

The replayability of Souls games doesn't come from trying different weapons, it's the build variety too. Playing as strength, dexterity, sorcery, pyromancy or a combination of those gives a lot of replay value. This game has none of that at all and is worse off because of it.

Hadn’t considered that.

Nearing the end now I think and I’m loving this new area. Feel like the combat has really clicked.

So the final optional boss Demon of Hatred is exactly that. Just beyond belief. Barely been able to get him to 50% of his first life and he has 3. He’s basically a Bloodbourne boss so nothing you’ve been trained to do works. It looks incredible but strawberry float is it ridiculous.

Yeah, I’m ditching this.
Not having fun.

Hopefully Game will have it on their list of trade-in titles to get new one for half-price, and it’ll go towards Rage 2.

The game does a bad job of teaching you how to play it, even with a tutorial. I think that’s why so many people are ditching it relatively early on.

Its also a game that treats the player like a banana split as well. It doesn’t feel like it wants you to get better but rather just to pay your blood sacrifice to get through it by dying an insane amount. No where does that feel better demonstrated than the end of the game where there are 3 boss bits and they’re all at least twice as difficult as anything else if the game. Just a straight up strawberry float you to the player.

I’m at the final encounter and I’m not sure I’ll ever beat it. I want to beat it and see the end of the story but I’m honestly not sure I can be bothered to smash my head against a wall for as long at it will take.

I'm not familiar with the game enough to know if this new Mega64 vid is a classic... but it seems to be pretty funny, anyway :-).

And done.

Not finished. I’m just done with the game officially. I’m not going back to it until they add an easy mode because I won’t get close to defeating any of those last bosses for another 20 hours at least, and strawberry float that.

Overall opinion, wonderful setting and interesting story, beautiful visuals and some of their best and most imaginative character design. Coupled with decent combat mechanics largely spoiled by poor tutelage and a seriously misjudged level of difficulty which heavily sacrifices it’s own playability.

He has 3 phases.

The first is on par with the hardest bosses in the game and I was getting past it maybe 10-20% of the time. The second phase is ridiculous, truly stupidly punishing. I never got anywhere close to getting the kill. The third phase, which is apparently what people call the real, fight I’ve only seen on YouTube and just looks preposterous, and in this phase you have to kill him twice. That’s why I gave up, I had a 1 in 5 chance of getting to a fight I had no hope on which would push me on to another stage which is much harder and I have to beat twice.

The way the character unfolds is spectacular but with zero checkpoints it’s just trolling. I’ve seen several people on resetera who have beaten it say as much. I’ve not actually seen any reviews, but I’m surprised it got such high scores with the state of that and the other end game fights. I sites gave the game to the hardcore Miyazaki fans amongst them and anyone else willing to call this bullshit out be damned.

You actually beat the game?

Going by your other post it just sounded like it would be such a soul destroying experience. Well done :toot:

Hopefully they patch in an easy mode someday so I can play this. Too much of a wuss to play it in it's current state.
