I power levelled a lot and then watched videos of how to do it. There's a technique for each stage and if all goes well you can power through a couple of them at least. I think finding an 'exploit' for his second stage is what made me persist to actually beat him. With that I could get to a point where I was regularly beating his first form, could breeze through the second and then really start the fight for the third and fourth forms. The round I actually did it I got a three lighting strikes on him which do big damage, so there was a chunk of luck involved to.

Ironically even though I got the 'best' ending, I actually thought it was pretty crap as a climax to the story. Still, once they became manageable the fights were great.

Think there's only 2 bosses I've not fought in the game so have started NG+ to go after them. I'm not sure if it's because I'm over levelled or I just get the combat properly now but I am absolutely flying through it. Already crushed half a dozen bosses.

I'm close to the last boss now I think.

I'm heading towards the silver field and only have the Hate Demon to finish up but the latter is taking a while.

EDIT; Also, congrats Herbi!

The flame umbrella will help with that.

Once it became doable it jumped into my top FS bosses ever.

Yeah, even though I'm still learning, unlike the two castle-top bosses I'm really enjoying him.

:fp:

I've been really stuck on the first boss, the horse rider.

My missus said "It looks easy, give me the controller"

She only went and beat him on her second try.

This game is pretty difficult isn't it? Only on the early stages, got through the first area after a few deaths and started exploring the Hirata Estate after getting the special item to unlock it at the Buddha. I was getting absolutely destroyed by the Shinobi Hunter who uses thrust attacks, then found another path to take before getting destroyed by a massive guy called Juzou the Drunkard.

The combat and parrying system hasn't clicked with me at all yet. I died a lot in the early stages of Bloodborne but generally understood where I went wrong and nothing felt insurmountable. Here there seems to be a lot to remember in regards to the parrying/blocking/dodging and I'm not sure I'll be able to get to the point where I can read attacks reliably and quickly enough to make sustained progress.

I'm still only a few hours in so hopefully things will click after some more time with the game.

If you haven't yet pick up the skill 'Mikiri Counter' which is specifically designed for thrust attacks. You do a huge amount of posture to any enemy that tries to thrust and as long as you don't rush too much it trivialises enemies with spears.

Also don't be afraid to be a huge coward. Enemies are tethered better than Dark Souls, but they will still give up chasing you after a while. If you want to clear out the area of regular enemies but trigger the shinobi hunter just run back a bit and wait for him to reset. Then you can get an easy backstab in a cleared arena. Same for Juzou if you keep running back through the house to the side. Then once everything is clear with Juzou, he'll reset a little in front of the exit of the house letting you get a backstab, then you can run towards the friendly samurai in the water pool and have a 2 on 1 fight. He's not the most durable, but he's still a good distraction.

It takes a while, but it's better than fighting a boss, like 4 guys, 2 with shields and 2 with bows.

Yeah the combat really isn't designed for encounters that are more than 1 on 1.

Also my method from about half way into the game was to always be pretty much always blocking during fights, then to release L1 and press it again to parry. I found the game far more manageable once I started doing this.

The Owl fights in this really are bullshit.

They’re so wilfully unfair. Forcing you to be continually perfect whereas he can give you opening after opening but because you basically only do chip damage the fight just goes on forever. It’s so boring and repeatedly tedious when you make a tiny mistake and the punishment is instant death forcing you to start the whole ordeal again. It’s a test of patience more than anything else.

Just when you think the game has thrown all the gooseberry fool it can at you along comes an enemy who two hit kills you even if your blocking. It’s perfect party or you die instantly.

Still, got all the Prayer Beads at last.

What's the deal with Dragonrot? I was under the impression that it would spread the more you use the resurrection option, but I've had it spread after just dying and not resurrecting. In which case, what are the downsides to choosing to resurrect?

It spreads on true death. There's no real need not to use resurrection unless you've messed up and want a quick reset. Dragon Rot is largely inconsequential though so I wouldn't worry about it.

The main punishment of dying is losing half your unbanked XP and coin which given how much it's needed in the late game or if going for all skills, is quite a loss.

Started this at the weekend and up to Lady B

Out of items so got grumpy and left.

You can see DS/Bloodborne in it, but it's much different from those. I was worried I'd hate it, but I think the parrying is good enough to be getting on with.

Suffering from item starvation across the board though

Hint: you don't need the snap seeds for LB. They're entirely optional.

So the missus beat Lady Butterfly on her third try.

She is having a lot of fun gloating how she is better than me, when I'm supposed to be the experienced Souls player :slol:

I did all the optional sub bosses before her. Then when I fought butterfly she ran out of stamina before I did.
