2020 has been a brutal year for us all, a tiny unseeable virus having robbed our society of many of the aspects of life that most make it worth living.

This place being an unchanged online beacon for a mostly-British band of former gaming magazine readers has provided solace: a consistent presence in a changing world; a frequent provider of entertainment and information.

With that in mind let's take the time to publicly call out those other forum members that we appreciate, for any reason at all.

Cheers to Drumstick, who ran not one but two large-scale forum games in 2020. Doing so is no small feat but creates all-encompassing intrigue and entertainment for those playing (until they get lynched / Grinched).

And while on the subject of games, cheers to Dual, Kezzer, Banjo and DML, not only for being excellent comrades but for being kind enough to forgive my PM errors which in any other game could've been extremely costly. And thanks too to Dangerblade, who kindly obliged and kept schtum when I accidentally included him in one group PM.

Not to be a party pooper but doesn't a topic like this risk upsetting people who get left out, which is clearly contradictory to the idea of spreading goodwill? It's the equivalent of being picked last in PE.

Maybe I'm just being too sensitive?

Cheers to...

Tsunade, for being a friend when i needed someone to speak with, and for creating a stunning replica of the gnome.

Jenuall, for all his quality Exeter based Red Dwarf banter.

RichardUK, just for being RichardUK.

Drumstick, for organising and running the excellent Grinch game.

Cheers to jawa - he may come and go, and he may take gaming opinions a little too personally from time to time, but his commitment to generating gaming discussion on topics both mainstream and frankly unloved is unwavering. Who else would be the leader of Club Amico? Though he may be half the man he once was*, it's thanks to the likes of jawa that our community continues to thrive.

I appreciate how Ad has a gif from Alan Partridge, Peep Show or The Office for every occasion.

No, this is a good point - and cheers to you for raising it. :)

I don't want people to name one person and be done with it. Call out all and sundry! For reasons big and small - if anyone has done anything to make you appreciate them - let it be known!

I think it's probably OK as long as you don't come in expecting every post to be about you and kind of understand that it's for a contribution to the place or someone who's individually helped out rather than a mutual backslapping effort.

Personally I actually had you in mind for a sharing of the love when I saw the thread anyway, because I think that you've been more open than anyone I've seen on the forum recently to seeing topics through the eyes of others and taking into account differing perspectives from your own, and I've really respected that in my interactions with you. It's cool to see.

Aside from that, a few people have been incredibly helpful when I've been getting set up to stream things on Twitch with advice and encouragement and it's been fantastic to rejoin a gaming community. Pedz, Cheeky Devlin, Cumberdanes, Karl(especially with the new widget that tells you when someone's gone live on Twitch!), TWA, Jazzem, Maf, Darkrula, Jenuall, Lagamorph, Kriken, Yubel, and a whole host of others who don't post on here as much. It's genuinely helped me through a tough latter half of the year and I feel like I owe you guys a lot.

Cheers to OrangeRKN for his contributions to the ACNH community here on GR - there are many others but he's the one who sent me Star Pieces out of the blue so I'm calling him out here

Cora's made me feel all emotional!

Before his post, I was actually going to say I appreciated Cora for helping to educate and point out my failings on a couple of occasions this year and I really mean that. It's good to have people online like Cora, Karl, etc who take the time to educate and enlighten and I appreciate anyone who has the patience to do so.

I just want to be a good guy so it means a lot to me that, when I slip up, I can rely on good people to call me out on it and offer a helping hand.

Thank you, dan!

I even had to - quite unexpectedly! - rush to mobilise the Wii U defence force earlier today. Someone had an opinion that could have been interpreted as not completely gushing about a game on the U and so I took prompt action to protect it 8-) .

I took quite a long break from GR during the past year; I suspect that "general world issues" were a factor and I wonder if we all suffered from this at some point. It kinda seemed difficult to just post here... but things change; what seemed like a "bad thing" at the time reverted to be a "good thing". No, I don't mean BREXIT / Fallout 76 / politics / Intellivision Amico ( ) but just the general vibe. I feel that GRcade is as good or bad as whatever you put into it - there is a large, diverse range of folk and thoughts here and this is a positive thing. It's how and when and why you choose to interact that makes the difference.

Like other folk have said, I honestly feel that GR has helped me through a few sticky times (context thread) over the years and, hey, if you're reading this then you're part of it :-).

tl;dr jawa shared emoshuns and will probably soon bugger off again when someone says they don't like something.

Off the top of my head, cheers to:

Everyone that took part in the werewolf and grinch games I ran. Those games are nothing without a willing, enthusiastic and understanding (for when I'm late) bunch of players. I hope everyone got some enjoyment from them and served as distractions to the horrible things going on in the outside world degree.

GR Team - all the behind the scenes admin, tech and mod work.

Cricket Crew - keep hope alive for that India 2021 tour. 8-) :dread:

Zilnad - for keeping us updated on the situation with his work and being able to see the humour in our good-natured ribbing about what is otherwise a stressful sitiuation.

Moggy - same as Zilnad except replace Director Wanker with Freehold Wanker. Please bury the lot of them at the tribunal.

Jenny - all the script assistance from Exeter's finest was greatly appreciated.

Pedz - keep the GR podcasts coming, pal.

Victor - always there with a pun, a gif, a story about bin bint or leafblower cretins to bring a smile to the face.

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

I'm not sure if this is quite in the spirit of the thread since I'm not specifically naming names but:

I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone in the Mental Health Thread during the whole Covid19 situation, especially my freakout back in June when uni had me writing about the effects of the virus on society (I'm not sure if I ever updated you guys on that btw. In the end I bit the bullet and wrote the essay. I got 65% which surprised me)

And a general thank you to the forum at large. I may post (very) infrequently and lurk a lot but having this place to come to, especially this year, has helped a lot. So, I guess, thank you to everyone.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

I'd just like to thank the forum community for welcoming me back after so many years. I've been lurking for years and the Facebook thread provided many a laugh.
