Just got email from the kickstarter: Shenmue III will now release on 19th November 2019.

Whilst almost ready, the game simply needs a little more refinement before being truly finished.

We feel that the extra time we have will help us deliver the true Shenmue experience players around the world deserve!

We thank you for your patience and understanding,

Yu Suzuki & Deep Silver

Shenmue 2 was my favourite game ever at the time... the PS4 release made me realise how badly designed both games are. I’m defo getting this and pray I love it

Much nicer to have this nearer Christmas, even if the period is not specifically represented in the game (as with Shenmue 1). It will give me plenty of time to play it during work shutdown (hopefully all the inevitable patches will have rolled out in the first 3 weeks or so post launch).

Yep, best one ever for me. P4G has strong potential in that area too, but the amount of time the game takes overall means its kinda unrealistic to experience it in the same way without a lot of engineering.

Bully is another. God I love Bully.

Nothing like moving through the streets of Shenmue 1, with the snow coming down, exiting the area, going to have your Christmas dinner, and by the time you’ve returned the new area has just about loaded

PC Version Epic Games Store Exclusive!

We are happy to announce that Shenmue III for PC will be will be an Epic Games Store exclusive. Development for Shenmue III has been moving forward using Unreal Engine and the support we have received from Epic has been excellent. But most importantly, in looking for the most enjoyable experience on PC, it was decided together with Deep Silver after much discussion that the Epic Games Store would be the best distribution platform option.

I think I'll just wait and see if it comes to Game Pass some day.

I feel sorry for the people who backed this on Kickstarter and were told they were getting a Steam key.

Quite a few delays this year...did he need more money to finish it so he’s taken whatever Epic offered?

Bad form for those that backed expecting a Steam release.

The comments on the Kickstarter page are basically "Give me a steam key or a refund"

This appears to be an example of how crowd-funding campaigns can go wrong. Now that a publishing partner (i.e. Deep Silver) is involved, "business" decisions are made and the original backers are almost forgotten about.

Gaming's most brazen force of blunt, unbridled capitalism strikes again D:

Hmm no idea what the legalities are but it's clearly an anti-consumer decision which is not good for gam3rs. Fortunately I'll be playing it on PS4.

On the other hand, a much healthier profit margin for the game and probably a massive cash injection from Epic should help polish the game pre- and post-release and maybe more DLC etc will be possible. Or even a further instalment.

Console gamers aren't going to care so they'll benefit the most.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."
