Only seems to be ShopTo mentioning this at the moment, but worrying that this means other third party retailers may start facing similar restrictions. Cdkeys have always been good for buying digital Switch games a bit cheaper than the eShop

Edit - Applies to all retailers in Europe though only Nintendo published titles.

With how good the Switch is it's easy to forget how appalling Nintendo has been with pricing and general community support with releasing their back catalogue of games.

I really hope CD Keys don't lose the digital codes.

I've bought a few Switch games digitally from ShopTo as they've been cheaper than the physical version. They've also been cheaper than CDKeys too.

gooseberry fool decision by Nintendo and if they want buying games digitally to be the norm, this is a huge steps backwards.

I’m surprised Nintendo and the publishers still get away with the pricing and antiquated online systems that they do on the Switch.

It's surprising how long a lot of places have been getting away with selling digital codes for cheaper than the eShop prices. When I bought an Animal Crossing code from them it was more than a tenner cheaper than the eShop.

Sony are even worse but it's weird how little that gets brought up in most places.

Poor decision imo, almost every game I own on Switch has come from CD Keys or Shopto.

Sony probably don't get as much flak for it because you can can store credit from a number of places for 10-20% off. You can very rarely do the same for eShop credit, and when it is available, it sells out very quickly.

There’s always bargains to be had with PSN and Microsoft store credit/passes so that’s what people will have to look out for with Nintendo instead.

Well I refuse to feel guilty for switching stores to get the cheapest prices if they are going to pull this sort nonsense.

I suspect cdkeys and others have already lost the codes. I don't think cdkeys have listed a new switch game since 51 worldwide games and xenoblade.. with paper mario out soon I'd have expected preorders by now but there's no sign of anything.

Nothing for Catherine or Deadly Premonition 2 either.. not looking promising

It isn't a case of just not getting new codes, from tomorrow ShopTo are being made to delist all of their full digital Switch games that they currently sell.
The only Switch codes they'll be able to sell are eShop credit, Nintendo Online memberships and add-on/DLC codes.

That's weird as you'd assume shopto have bought "stock" of their codes so does that mean Nintendo/publishers are refunding them or they just lose out.. seems bad for everyone, you'd think they'd be allowed to sell their existing codes until they run out and just not get more, can't imagine they'd have that many and it'd mostly be older releases. Silly Nintendo.

Please don't hit cdkeys. I bought animal crossing and xenoblade from them, saving £20. It got me in the all digital mindset, but if that's gone then I'm not paying full price for digital, so will have to go back to trading against physical games again.

It’s OK though. Nintendo know that their fans like to pay more for their games.

This sucks. I've used ShopTo a few times to buy digital (Mario Maker 2, Animal Crossing), and it's always been c£40, much more reasonable than the eShop prices.

I'm assuming places like ShopTo buy codes in cheaper territories and re-sell at slightly higher places in UK? I wonder if the volume of Animal Crossing digital sales was what pushed Nintendo to take action on this.

Yyyyyyep.

Nintendo has never been the most customer-friendly company in any case. See: their attitudes to cloud saves, YouTube, online... I can understand why you might not like seeing your codes go for cheap, but there’s a reason nobody else heavy-handedly tramples all over it (heavy-bootedly?).

Nintendo: friendly games, unfriendly practices.

I'm not excusing Nintendo but didn't Sony do exactly this last year?
