So, the general thought is that we shouldn't join the Euro at the moment.

Who thinks we should have, all those years ago when it first came about?

Yeah, but if that's were the case, surely the EuroCentre would say "Push off MrB with your worthless money!".

My head hurts. Want to go into the woods? (**picks up spade**)

I think the safest thing would be to buy gold with your 10,000 pounds. You could bury it in the woods if you like.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I don't know. I'd assumed it was bad.

So at the moment £10,000 savings might only become 10,000Euro(I can't get the symbol!). If the pound was strong it might become 20,000Euro (made up exchange rates). I'd assume the later would be better, but then again...it depends on the strength of the pound/euro versus others, not just each other...

My head hurts...

I seem to remember, when Gordon Brown was chancellor, that the strong pound was the main factor in not joining the single currency, although i don't think he actually admitted it.

We were right not to go in then, We were in such a strong position financially that having a centeralised monetary policy wouldnt have even had an medium term benefits (If i remember my econimics long term is defined but a permenant change in the S/D curves).

Ha, i cant believe my degree was economics with Euro economics specialisation 3 years ago and i cant remember anything!

I don't know much about economics but joining when we're in dire straits in order to try and halt the decline in our currency seems like a sound idea to me. However I also wonder if us joining the Euro would cause the Euro to be dragged down as well.

Kind of like, "uh oh, there goes the neighbourhood/currency"

Yes, I want to start a family with Suzzy over there as the education system is so much better than over here. But the taxes are nearly 50% it's crazy. I will have to wait until I am on 60k+ to afford to live over there.

Because the private school kids I see on the train each day are little weedy wankers. I'd hate to see my kids grow up like that.

I was for one year until my parents split up. I was very unpopular when I went to state school :( But it toughened me up.

It was meant to be "I was a private school kid", but me realising half way through. It didn't work on paper though did it.

I like the pound, and don't want to join the Euro. Part of this is probably because the Euro looks like Monopoly money. Horrible.
